Yes. It should lock when you turn the steering wheel when the ignition is locked. It should unlock when you turn the ignition on. If not get service.

Why does my steering wheel lock after I start my car but not before

Hello. It seems a wire 'contact' is out of place; 'energizes' when it's not supposed to. This will cause your steering wheel to lock when the switch is on but unlock when it is off. You might have to remove the lock cylinder again and remove and replace the main ignition switch itself. Good luck and keep me informed; if you want to.

How do you get the steering wheel lock off 2001 Aztec 3.4 litre with anti theft light flashing

If the ignition switch and key are ok. The steering wheel lock can be easily disengaged by rocking the steering wheel back and forth and at the same time. Try to rotate the ignition from run to start. If the anti-theft light is flashing there should be an active fault within the security system. GM has a sensitive ignition switch you are not suppose to hang anything from the ignition key. The weight can damage the halo (part of the anti-theft system). Please write back and give me an idea of what you are looking for and how you want to proceed. Good Luck.

Why won't my 2002 Volvo s80 shift out of park?

All vehicles have a safety feature that won't allow a vehicle to be shifted into gear without the drivers foot being on the brake pedal . Shifter interlock system . There is a electrically controlled solenoid that locks the shifter ,when you step on the brake pedal an electrical signal un locks the shifter ,allowing the gear selector to move.

I drove my 2005 Dodge Stratus from one parking to the other without an issue. Two hours later, when I turned the key nothing would happen. Battery is good, interior and headlights turn on, but radio

maybe a bad ignition switch or your timing belt, also try turning your steering wheel back and forth while trying to start it.make sure you are actualy in park or that your steering linkage is working and not disconnected under the hood

Fault running gear workshop touareg

Not being able to turn the steering wheel at all starts at the ignition lock locking the shaft under the steering wheel. Next if that is ok then it indicates a serious problem in the rack and pinion or the flexible joint to the rack/steering box. As this is a safety issue I would put it on a tilt tray and have a accredited steering repair shop investigate the problem. Check the power steering pump drive belt is still intact

Steering wheel wont unlock and key wont turn, tried turnin key and steering wheel, Am I supposed to have someone turn key while I shake the actual wheel? thxs, jon

They do stick from time to time, check the key is not bent. also adjust the hieight of the steering wheel. if you have parked it with the wheels turned in or out then you need to return it to the position faceing the way the wheels do. it can feel very stiff but have a go should do it, careful with the key. if you can get someone to help then do.

Always park your wheels straight!!!

Key In Ignition Won't Move 2002 Chrysler Town & Country

The steering column sounds locked. Try turning the steering wheel all the way left or right till you hear it unlock or until the key can turn. Note; You must use force to unlock the steering column and don't be scared because it won't break anything.

Key won't turn ignition in 1996 Geo Metro

The steering lock consists of a hardened pin and it may not be releasing any more although it shouldn't interfere with the turning of your key, just your steering unless the Geo is done differently.
If it was mine, I would get a little rough with it and turn the steering wheel hard from left to right while trying to turn the ignition key.
Even disassembly is not easy since the lock area is supposed to be secure so it cannot be easily defeated.
