Could be a vac leak or a problem with the idle air control valve. I would check the valve to see if it is sticking open. Could be a problem with the throttle cable too.

SOURCE: 2003 Ford Taurus, 90K, used car, engines shakes, ABS goes on

Are you getting any codes from the Check Engine Light? This sounds like it could have something to do with a sensor. Check your air filter and make sure it's clean. The tach on my 1999 doesn't really work, but it hasn't coincided with other driveability problems. The engine doesn't change in it's RPM's, the tachometer just stops working. Have your charging system checked. The shaking might be coming from bad fuel pump operation, clogged fuel filter, or dirty fuel injectors. Try putting an additive into your gastank to clean the injectors (a bottle of Seafoam is great for this). Try calling your local Autozone and see if they do free trouble code scanning. This might help lead you in a better direction.

SOURCE: 95 mustang 3.8 has high idle about 3,000 rpm when

Best take it to a repair shop. If your removing air intake ducting and starting the vehicle, you don't understand the technology.

SOURCE: 2003 ford taurus idle problems had trouble codes

2003 Ford Taurus. 3.0, V6. 162k mi. Had rough idling and 'loping' when car in Park, or prolonged stops at red lights. Checked air filter. Changed it. Problem still present. Checked MAF sensor. Okay. Checked PCV valve and line for leaks. BINGO! The PCV valve had vacuum. But the rubber elbow at the top of the PCV valve line was cracked and collapsing. Also had a lot of oil 'gunk' on the inside around the hole. Replaced the elbow and PCV valve. Started car. No more idling problems.

High rpm after putting in drive

first.... is this when the engine is cold or at operating temp. or does it make a difference.
it would help to know what make model and year, that being said, high idle is generally caused by vacuum leak somewhere or dirty throttle body . does it have a vacuum brake booster or power steering brake booster?

What revolutions should my 4 litre v6 Hi lux Surf be doing on start up in the morning and how quick should it drop back to normal idle?

concerned about nothing
the ECM sets the high idle rpm on starting so that there is sufficient air / fuel mixture to keep the engine running while it does a tune up and checks all the sensors
when the sensors are all reporting within parameters , the idle speed will drop back
should settle at around 850-900 rpm
as for the fan noise
if you have a viscous fan hub( not electric ) that is the fan locked in high temperature mode and will stay there until the liquid silicon is pumped back into the reservoir
usually takes about 1 minutes and indicates a properly operating fan
as the silicon is being pumped back the fan rpm slows down with a reduction of fan noise
If anything raises your concerns , you have an on board fault recording system that you can access at any time using a scan tool
get in the habit of having the fault codes read at each service or when you feel something is wrong as it will save you lots and lots of cash by not guessing repairs

Why do my truck idles so loud the first 2 minutes or so when i start driving?

This is likely the hydraulic fan clutch behind the radiator. Is the RPM high also? If not it's the fan clutch. It is normal for the fan clutch to stay locked until it warms up, a few minutes.

Why does my 2000 ford taurus idle so high when i start it

this is normal, if the idle wasn't high (about 2,500 RPM) the engine wopuld stall out until it warms up to normal temperature. If it is above 3000 RPM for more than a few seconds you have a problem.
