1999 Audi A3 1.8T Electric Windows and Central Locking Won't work

First of all my Central Locking stopped working. (It's remote central locking - the key fob still activated/deactivated the alarm and immobiliser at this point). When I try and lock the car from the drivers door using the key it will only lock the drivers door. The central locking switch on the drivers door doesn't work either. I have to lock the passenger door from inside and the boot from outside using the key. The next day my electric windows packed up (they worked perfectly and then stopped working and haven't worked since). Occasionally the interior light stays on when the doors are closed. Now my key fob won't activate the alarm. I'm not sure if all of these problems are related as they happened within a 2 day period. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I really don't know much about cars or electrics!!

I don't have a lock on the passenger door that's why I need to open it from the inside. Both passenger and driver windows are not working, they both stopped working at the same time. (The electric mirrors still work). Would the central locking not working affect the windows or are they independant problems?

Thanks very much for your advice,

    Nick

Hi. I'm having the exact same problem - did you manage to solve it? Was it the central locking pump? Thanks, Lawrence.

Will your passenger door open with the key and is it just one side that your windows are not working or both. if its just one side it might be your regulator motor in the door thats not working if its both it might be your central locking pump usually in the boot. however if both of them are working fine it could be that your key needs reprogrammed however i think the 1st 2 are more likely to be the problem.

SOURCE: my central locking on renault megane not working

sounds like its time for a new fob, try useing the key to unlock the door this should shut down alarm, if its the key fob chip your talking about then hope you have a spare if not, depending on the year may need to reprogram a new key fob.

Remote central locking not working on Honda CRV 1999. central locking works with Key and the alarm and imobliser work form the remote.

Hi I wonder if you can advise me ,my central locking and alarm is very unreliable it keeps making a beep before the ignition goes on and clicking,it sometimes sets the alarm off,Ive had the AA round and theyve told me the car battery is dead, which I appreciate, but think the key hub central locking or alarm is running the battery low does the hand held button need a new battery,or can I take the fuse out for the central locking, dont want to pay 66 quid for a new battery if I can pay 2 quid for a new battery for the central locking button,or demobilize it

Central locking and windows unusable due to leak

I've been dealing with similar problems (windows and sunroof dead, power locks iffy, dome light doesn't work, random chiming) and best I can figure is:

a) get rid of the leak and any standing water
b) depending on the year of your car check the relays and/or central locking module

I spent a lot of time checking the ECU and door interior parts and those were both dead ends. I also thought the standing water on the floor might be shorting actual wiring, but now I've eliminated that as well. Although my alarm hasn't been going off, the "door chime" has and the instrument cluster sometimes shows 3 or 4 doors open while driving. VAG-COM showed some alarm trip type faults as well. Central locking is my next move when I've got some time.
