SOURCE: Key is stuck in ignition of 1997 saturn sl1
I saw a similar post with similar problem with another Saturn. The dealer told him it was a bad battery. My guess here is it is a bad Ignition. However, just to appease the dealer side, disconnect the negative cable from the battery and connect the jumper cable to the negative cable and positive cable. If it was the battery causing the problem the key should come right out. My guess is you need to replace the ignition as one or more of the tumblers is not releasing as it should.

Testimonial: "fluid was fine sounds like rebuild time"
SOURCE: 1997 saturn sl1 shift solenoids, where can I find
There is no aftermarket solenoids. Either go to the dealer or search online for the same part number. A solenoid is a solenoid, there is no difference for our cars. Plus all the solenoids are the same for SOHC and DOHC (MP6 and MP7).
