Look for a light blue label in the engine compartment, the refrigerant capacity and oil capacity are on that label. But, being a '97, that label might be long gone. That information can also be found in a service manual. Manuals can be purchased at parts stores and you might even find one at a library. You could also call a dealer's service department and ask them.

2-3 quarts.

look in the manual in dash it has all capacities in it, i have a 2007, it holds 6 quart with filter change, tell you what, change the oil and filter ,add 5 quarts if its a v-8 crank for a min, shut off let sit a while check dip stick to see if you are full or quart low, best thing to do if you cant find in manual, hope to help you ,robert b.

There is a sticker under the hood that tells you it is a 134a system and how much refrigerant it holds, and what kind of a/c oil to use. My guess is around 2 pounds, but it is an exact science. Too much or too little will cause it not to cool

I WOULD THINK NO LESS THAN 5 QUARTS.DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE THE WRONG DIP STICK.IF NOT CHANGE OIL AND FILTER,PUT IN 4 OR 5 QUARTS FIRE IT UP FOR THIRTY SECONDS WAIT A FEW MINUTES AND CHECK LEVEL.DO THIS UNTIL IT SHOWS UP FULL ON STICK.RECHECK AFTER A FEW HOURS OF SITTING IN CASE OF SLUDGE IN MOTOR.
