SOURCE: hard to start and smell gas

have 1994 4.3 cpi and the problem I had sounds same.
It was a leaky pressure line in pletium . easy fix $45.00 part $15.00 gasket.
the leak was caused from the fuel lines rubbing together in pletium.
take the vortec cover off ,then remove air regulator in middle and look inside . I turned on power to key and gas spray came from drivers side of pletium looking in hole.fuel line side. if gas spray on passanger side then gas regulator faulty. takes 5 min to check
After fixing truck runs runs great. no more gas smell in cab.
also you can smell oil for gas

SOURCE: 1999 chevy suburban misfire

could be one of several things
1) run a compression check, if it low on that cyl then you have a blown head gasket or burnt valve
2) could be the enjector

SOURCE: 1997 chevy truck running rough

Is this a 5.7? They are notorious for intake manifold gasket leaks. When mine did it, the diagnostics blamed it on an ignition misfire also! Replaced the gaskets and it runs smooth!

SOURCE: 2001 Chevy Blazer 2dr 2wd. P0300 multiple misfire,

that smell is a dead give away. your conv. is clogging when it gets hot, and you have a bad oxy sensor. the reason for the converter is the 4door is more popular, so they more relacement parts for it. If you go to your local exhaust shio like we have at home, they can save you a ton on price and parts, and they will make it inspection safe for sure. after you get the work done, make sure you add a can of SEAFOAM to tank, and every 5000 miles to keep emission and fuel parts clean. the ethanol gas is causing terrible problems, and for some reason, especially GM vehiles(they don't know why yet) good luck

SOURCE: i own a 96 chevy k1500 5.7 l vortec and have a no 5 cyl misfire

It could be a faulty fuel injector, try running a fuel injector cleaner through your fuel system. At worst the poppet nozzle has gone bad and will need to be replaced, you can buy the poppet nozzle it self individually at Auto Zone or buy upgrade MFI system which is much better and less pron to fuel leaking room a cracked poppet line or nozzle which will cause what you have described.

Testimonial: "very helpfull, allthese year i thought i had throttle body as it turns out i have muti port. thanks for the fix."

Next time it doesn't start, spray your plug wires and distributor cap with WD40. If it fires right up replace your plug wires. I had the same problem with my 3 cyl 1.0L .

Code for misfire cyl 4. replaced wires, plugs, distributor cap and rotor. at speed of 40 mph check engine light flashes and when decelerate at times will flash also.

When your check engine light flashes, it means there is a serious problem. When you tested the code, is that when you got the misfire code?

P0301 - Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected.

Possible Causes:
- Improper spark plug at cylinder #1
- Insufficient compression at cylinder #1
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- The injector circuit is open or shorted at cylinder #1
- Fuel injector #1 may be faulty
- Intake air leak at cylinder

Possible Solutions:
- Perform Injector Service
- Replaced Spark Plug #1
- Replaced Injector #1
- Replaced Ignition Coil #1

Being you have a heavy gas smell I would look into the injectors. If injector #1 is over producing it can cause a misfire. Test your compression and fuel pressure.

I have a misfire code on #5 cyl. in a 1998 chevy full size 6 cyl. What would the fix be?

the most likely fix is going to be a plug wire or plug. pull cyl 5 plug look closely at the insulator wear boot goes on see if you see marks look like a pencil wrote on it this is called carbon tracking and indicates the fire running down the plug and look at wire for any burn spots. you most likely just need a tune up.
