Dodge RAM 2001 1500, pickup not the 1500 van. 5.2L (gas)
GAS NOT 5.9 DIESEL SURE
cranks fast
but will not start or does for 1 to 10 sec and stalls.
there are 50 causes, and 1 to 20 test using lots of tools to find it.
is this you asking for how to guess it or how test and find the cause.?
ok that gas pedal trick keeps it going, a A#1 top clue here.
I guess you have
no scan tool to fix cars/ diagnose it?
working BLIND on any modern car lacking scan too will be costly guessing 50 times. for sure.
scan it. first. after all fuse checked for GOOD.
the IAC on this car is a motor controlled air air valve for idle speeds
hot or cold engine both and 100% PCM controlled,
IAC is what controls idle
ASD (side show of vast)
there is also ASD if the PCM sees errors (overoload) OUT OF ASD RELAY OUTPUT PIN IT DROPS THE ASD DEAD, AND ENGINE IS STALLED ON PURPOSE, JUST LIKE ALL JEEPS DO. AND DODGE.
CLASSIC CAUSES THERE, ARE SHORTED INJECTORS OR SHORTED O2 SENSORS. DEAD SHORTS.
BUT I BET NOT ASD DROP OUT FAILS.
The IAC motor is located on the back of the throttle body.
below is the IAC motor schematic.
i owned 3 jeeps that had this, before throttle by wire.
all 3 the IAC gunked up, every 50km miles.(egr/pcv caused)
the ECT SENSOR sets cold start RPM, more air and way less air hot.
the motor simply jams with gun and needs top be cleaned (oldest story on IAC on earth)<<, common as nails .
I am having trouble on line de-mixing schematics gas;'diesel)!
so let me look at it all. now.
Gas has MAP: sensor
THE MAP INPUT PORT IS VACUUM AND MUST NEVER BE GUNKED UP AND BLOCKED, OR INJECTIONS WILL BE CRAZY WRONG
IT IS THE KEYSTONE SENSOR ! COMPUTES INJECTION RATES
BASED ON VACUUM.(PCM COMPUTES)
32 pages on PCM alone.
this 5.2 lists the IAC motor. as GAS.
the IAC is what I call a nose cone IAC motor ,
THIS IS MY BEST GUESS AS TO WHAT FAILS
FOR SURE RIGHT FOOT CAN KEEP ENGINE RUNNING GOOD
AND OF KEYED STARTS ARE HARD. ADDING 5% THROTTLE
MAKE ENGINE START FAST.
2 SCREWS IT OUT, CLEANED AND PUT BACK IN.
WELL I CLEAN THE INTERNAL
SEAT TOO. ONCE OUT.
