Vauxhall corsa faults

Knock from suspension fronts on small wheel shake & general driving. If you jack up The front there seems to be a lot of movement at the upper mounts. Is there a figure to check against or a standard?

There will be no movement in the mounts unless the suspension rubber/ bushes are worn out . There will be no figures as it amounts to the fact that if you can move them then they will need replacing. take it to an accredited suspension shop and have a safety check done and have them show you what is worn and needs replacement and calculate how much you will save by doing it yourself against what they will charge for a good -safe-guaranteed job.

Where is speedo senser located on 1996 vauxhall corsa 1.4 auto

Hello Bill Seed,

It should be at the top... side of the transaxle
(only the top part showing)...

Prices do vary wildly so definitely shop around.

We have not imported Opel/Vauxhall here (usa) for decades
but the application looks very similar to the VW front wheel drives of the same vintage.

What is the oil capacity of an Opel Corsa 1.7 DTI utility manual gearbox and what grade oil should be used

As a standard, any front wheel drive car uses ATF lubricant or better known as Automatic Transmission Fluid to lubricate it's gearbox, you can recognise it by its colour witch is deep red, an opel/vauxhall corsa/astra 1.7d/1.7di/1.7dti/1.7cdti uses ATF II, not a easy trans to fill, suggest you let a dealer do this service

Front end shakes

Ty, first off, do you feel the vibration in the steering wheel? Is it in the steering wheel & front end? I will assume that the tires were inspected and determined to be ok. Sometimes, the shop may have a rookie do the basic inspection and then have an experienced tech come in if there seems to be an issue. The problem with this is that the ford suspension needs to be "loaded" in order to properly inspect for loose components. That means that they would have to either jack the front suspension on an alignment rack from the control arms or use a jack stand under the control arm.. If the vibration is only in the front end and tires are good. It sounds like there may be an issue with a ball joint or control arm bushing. Something along those lines.. More info needed.

Knocking on suspension

This problem could be a number of things, the best thing to do is to check the front suspension. first jack up the car , front of car with e- brake on, the first thing is to make sure the wheels are not loose, i have seen loose lug nuts cause this problem, shake wheel and then check lug nuts that hold wheel on.

Grab hold of one wheel and shake it in and out, this is done with hands on the left and right of tire, and then top and bottom of tire, you are looking for play in the steering components ,
Next you will need to check the ball joints, to this you will need a floor jack, place the jack under lower control arm, this will take pressure off the joints by compressing the spring, then with a bar placed under the tire lift bar and have someone watch for movement in the ball joints.this is to be done on both sides.

If there is play an these parts then replacement is needed but keep in mind a little play may not cause the clunk you hear, there would have to be a lot of play. the last thing in the front suspension would be the control arm bushings or sway bar bushings. these you will need to look at closely..

good day

The front end and steering wheel shakes when i hit a hole or bump

This usually indicates a problem with the suspension components. Check for play in front end suspension, 1st thing I would check would be the steering damper, it's often overlooked, and could be the cause. If that checks out ok, jack up and check for play in wheels, which could be caused by worn ball joints, tie rod ends, wheel bearings. A lot of possibilities, generally play in any components can trigger the shaking you're experiencing when hitting a pot hole or bump. Good luck!

Car steering

There could be numerous problems going wrong. Your car is rear wheel drive so it could very well be a bad wheel bearing. If it is extremely loose it can cause a shake in your steering wheel. You may want to check on the condition of your tires and rims especially the left front. A bad tire can cause a shake and pull. If you know how to use your car jack you can try jacking the vehicle up, and put both hands on your front wheel and move it manually to see if there is looseness. Most shops only charge about 1/2 hour to shake down the front end. BMW parts are expensive so be prepared!
