Where can I get a diagram showing the brake line bends for my 1996 geo prizm.

the brake line bandito , run amuck.

the FSM book on car covers this.
or buy used lines, and use as guide.
i think toyota still sells them.

you got the right tool for the brake flare, tool , double cone them.
if not they will be unsafe.
and if using wrong lines. same. there are lines that are not for brakes.
where did you get the blank lines....
do not use copper or brass and only use DOT certified lines , done or raw.

Brake line diagram

What you need to do is take off the original line. If you check on the Web, you may find some kits for a complete system, but an individual line is often difficult to ship.

There are different size fittings on the ends of brake lines. In some cases, the Universal lines may work, but the end fittings must match your vehicle. This is why taking the old line with you is important.

Some mechanics get coils of brake lines and bend and fit the ends themselves. It takes a few specialized hand tools to accomplish this. They are not terribly expensive, but for 1 line it is not worth it and it takes some skill to properly install the fittings on the line.

Now you have a 14 Year old car, and I can't recall when they stopped all production. But even a later model may be too old for them to stock a Factory replacement part.

A good brake shop would be your best bet. Call ahead and ask if they can make a line to replace what you have. It should not take but a 1/2 hour or so to swap out what you have, then some time to bleed the brakes.

One thing to consider- ALL lines were new at the same time. If one rusts out, there are few reasons for corrosion to be any worse for the failed line than the rest of the lines on your van. The exception would be collision replacements in which some brake lines might be newer than your van.

Brake Line Replacement on 1996 Olds Ciera

If you need to replace a brake line, you're going to have to bleed the line of air once you remove the broken one. I would highly suggest having an Autozone Tech. explain how to get that accomplished (they have always been very helpful to me).

Brake lines leak bad

Any auto parts outlet will carry replacement brake lines and connectors. Not costly either, except for the connectors, their brass.I replace all brake lines every time I build another vehicle in this manner. After all lines are replaced,go to the brake bleeder farthest from the master cylinder and take it out.Fill the master cylinder, and the brake will bleed themselves with gravity.omce fluid comes out of the farthest, close it off .Then,Go to the closest to m-cylinder,having someone push the brake pedal to bleed it out and so forth for the others.Rigger

Thsi morning a mechanic flushed out the brake fluid to replace with a new fluid. When he bleeded to let the air out, there was a leak in one of the 4 brake lines. The brake line is rusted from years of...

Hi, this is a very common failure. I recommend you call a couple brake shops. They will have the parts in stock and better experience to get the job done quickly. The bed or the tank may need to come off, but a quicker way may be to leave the old line in and just cut it, reflare the ends, and reroute a new spliced line. Your Firestone mechanics may not have the experience to know this.

Thanks for using FixYa.
