Timming marks - 1988 Honda Accord 4 Door

paintstik or welders chalk or soapstone

check that the firing order of the plug leads is not out 180 degrees

has the timing chain been replaced

Ther are none. It takes a tool to hold the cams in place while the valve cover is removed. Get a chilton book from the library.

didnt you mark it before you removed the old belt??

you should have timming marks on the front engine block. if you see it you will need a timming light to set it very cheap to buy. if you do not see any timming marks and you have a distributer losen it a little but with the car running. now with the car running turn the distruber left or right until you hear and feel the car idle high. once you feel it idle low go back up until it idle high and keep it there and tighten the distruber back. turn the car off and try starting it back up. it should start right on time with the correct timming and idle. good luck

timming marks on cams face each other 3 and 9 o clock crank mark at about 6 o clock mark in cover and sump auto adjuster arrow should be in v mark to set this requires turning water pump by loosening water pump bolts slightly be warned some times this causes pump o ring seal to leak if turning.

Get a new belt with marks on it. They're 25 bucks. easy fix. Next time mark it b/4 you take it off.
