SOURCE: Difficult to start again after warm up engine.

give the engine a minute or two to cool down before turning it off. This cool down period allows oil to circulate and cool down the bearings in the turbo. If you shut off the engine immediately after hard driving, the oil can gum up around the hot bearings and create problems down the road.
Hope this helps

Thanks for using Fixya

SOURCE: troubleshoot honda 2.0 i-vtec check engine lights

If the car can still be started it could be related to items that needs cheeking up and routine in nature such as tune-ups, change oil etc. Try to remove the negative terminal of the battery to see if you can clear out the errors. If that does not work, you may need a scanner to pick up the error and accurately diagnose the problem.

Oil leak by the timming cover gasket

we need engine displace ment or exact honda type. ID
to answer fully.,
my guess, is the engine leaks oil and you have tried fix it
odd, you did the hard ones first. why not the valve cover
did you know there are 2 ways to find leaks.
1: clean it , all off, then run it and look. see live leak.
best is to do that with out driving as the wind blows it about.
find it , now you know what leaking.
2: use the UV dye kit.
quote wiki, but WHAT ENGINE ?????????????????
all base models were made with 1.6L engines. The EX-CX are all SOHC (Honda D engine). The CX, DX, and LX all have D16y7 non-VTEC engines; whereas the EX has a D16y8 VTEC, and the HX has D16y5 VTEC-E. The USDM Si and Canadian SiR came with a DOHC (B16A2 VTEC).

first tell engine, ! DOHC is quite different.

What other engine will fit a 97 civic ex?

The 96-98 Civic EX came with an OBD2A D16Y8 engine. That is the only engine that will go in as a direct replacement with your current engine ECU. It's an SOHC VTEC engine that has two extra connections not found on the other 96-98 Civic engines - a VTEC solenoid and a special oil sensor used to determine if VTEC engagement is possible. If you swap in an older Civic engine (92-95 generation) you'll have to convert the car to OBD1 (requires a special adapter hardness) and run the ECU that goes with whatever engine you use. This will break functionality of your OBD2 diagnostics port, and depending on which state you live in will cause you to fail emissions checks. If you install a D16Y8 engine from a 99-00 Civic EX, you will have to swap the intake and exhaust manifolds from your old engine to the new engine, and you will be able to continue to run your existing OBD2A wiring and ECU. The 99-00 Civic EX engines have additional sensors, since those engines are OBD2B. The easiest fix would be to find a SOHC VTEC D16Y8 from a 96-98 Civic EX, as it would be a direct plug and play replacement.

Civic 97 sohc vtec wont start

The need for the trans to be in park or neutral is a safety feature on all automatics called a detente. This prevents the vehicle from starting in gear and taking of out of control. As for the starting problem, if the battery is good and you even tried to jump it with another car the best place to start is at the battery terminals for corrosion.Remove the cables and with some sand paper, not to rough, clean the both the terminal and cable end to a shin before replacing.
If it still won't start than check all the connections on the starter motor. Do the same thing to all the connections that you did to the battery. After replacing the terminals on the battery and starter coat them with a terminal spray to protect them.

Vtec wont work

More than likely its your temp sensor on the front of the engine, Ive seen it be the cause of things similar including high idle when car first starts(happened to me when I switched out my 1.5 for 1.6 sohc vtec engine, engine was built as an automatic so i changed out the flywheel etc but no place for the sensor) and happens to be the sensor for my radiator at the same time so it controls the fan.
