My 03 dodge neon has jumped time. What do I need to check. I know that I will have to replace the timing belt. Do I have to replace the valves or get the head resurfaced?

Most mechanics would pull the spark plugs and check the compression in the cylinders, but usually anyone with a trained ear can tell by the sound of the starter when cranking against the compression of each cylinder. Many of the smaller engines today have valving designed so that when they are out of time, the pistons interfere with them. That means two objects try to take up the same space at the same time and at minimum the valves bend. Worse case scenario would be upper head/camshaft damage and possible piston damage. That's pretty severe. You won't know until you get the valve cover off or maybe deeper. Hope that helps.

Most likely you will only have to replace the timing belt. There is a chance that a valve hit a piston, but this usually doesn't happen unless you were racing the engine when the belt broke.

Did you replace every with the belt? if so, pull the valve cover and check the cam journals. One at a time. If they are scored up, replace the head.

98 dodge neon has jumped time. How do I fix?

To begin with, the timing is not adjustable.
The computer uses signals from the crank sensor and cam sensor to decide when to fire the plugs and injectors.
Have you checked the computer for trouble codes yet ?

2005 dodge neon is having problems with jumping and dying and the engine light is on

The alternator is more than likely bad. If you jump start all the time and the car dies quickly it is the alternator, if you jump start all the time and it runs until shut off, but will not restart it is the battery.

Oh ya you definitely have to have the computer and the complete wiring harness for the new engine. 00-02 was the new body style and new engine in 03 they modified the body style and the engine. IT is a hard transfer but very possible. Good luck
