Do I have a bad alternator?

I have a 2005 Neon SXT. I've been having trouble starting the car lately, and took it to Autozone to have the battery/alternator tested. They said the batter was bad, and that the alternator had bad diodes. After looking under the hood myself, I noticed that the alternator belt is in bad shape. Could a bad belt cause the alternator test to fail in this way? I would rather not replace the alternator if I don't have to.

If the diodes are bad in the alt then it will cause the battery to go dead and a bad belt will not have any affect on that test but I would replace alt and belt charge battery

Do you hear any squealing when you drive the car? If so the belt is slipping so yes. Replace it anyway because you don't want it to snap and Replace the battery. Retest the charging voltage you are looking for 12.7v to 13.9 if you don't have a multi meter take it to another garage and ask nicely if they could check the charging voltage most will not charge but you want the voltage NOT pass/ fail or its fine
I recommend this as some battery faults can give faulse charging readings

How do i check the codes on a 2005 neon

Most people go to an auto parts store and have them scan the computer for free. Keep in mind they do this in hopes of selling you some parts you may or may not need.
The trouble codes do not mean the parts they are associated with always need to be replaced, just tested.

My headlights and some dash board lights are flickering. Its getting worse.

AS YOU STATE THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE ON THE ALTERNATOR AND MOST PROBABLY THE REGULATOR IS THE FAULT OR THE BRUSHES. THEREFOR YOU NEED THE HELP OF AN ELECTRICIAN TO TEST YOUR ALTERNATOR FOR CHARGING AND ALSO THE BATTERY CHARGING CAPACITY AND POWER LEFT THEREIN.

I HAVE A 2005 DODGE NEON 2.0 SXT MODEL. IT HAS 91,000 MILES AND HAS A SEVERE VIBRATION WHEN I ACCELERATE WE CHANGED THE MOTOR MOUNTS DID A FULL TUNE UP AND SEVERAL THINGS TO STOP THIS NOTHING SEEMS TO HELP...

We are looking to buy the same 2005 Dodge Neon 2.0 SXT that has 150,000 miles and it does the same thing - vibrates at acceleration and lacks power. We've been told by the buyer that a mechanic said the "Harmonic "Balancer" needs to be replaced. We are hoping to be able to bring the car to a mechanic tomorrow to find out what it is and if it is a major or minor repair (which will determine if we purchase the car or not!).

The codes listed all point to the transmission being in bad shape or some wiring got crossed. Check with a trans shop for an estimate.
