If you live near an AutoZone they used to offer free check engine light diagnostics.
See what code they can retreive from the computer with their device and check it against the list of codes. It may not just be a missing Gas cap code. There are hundreds of codes computers can return.

Best Wishes.

SOURCE: 03 honda Odyssey gas smell and check engine light

I've got a '99 Oddy with the same symptom of gas odor inside and outside of the vehicle. Gas cap was secure and the level of fuel made no difference, so by process of elimination, I checked and followed the fuel lines and made sure there were no cracks that I physically could put an eye and hand on and eventually ended up at the fuel injectors and fuel rail. From there, all you need to do is remove the plastic cover plate from the intake plenum and the injectors will be exposed as well as the fuel rail. Turn the car on and wrap some paper towel over your hand like a mitten and run it over the suspected areas. You'll either find your leak there or the fuel filter located under the rear sliding doors.

I had the same problem. My battery was going bad. When I replaced it with a new one, the fuel gauge worked fine.

Honda pilot emissions warning light

To resolve the issue, tighten the gas cap or replace it, and then disconnect the battery. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes and then reconnect it. If not solved, then there can be a variety of reasons why these lights illuminate i.e. the fuel injector may need to be replaced. We suggest you drive down to a repair shop and ask them to run diagnostics with a code reader.

Fuel cap loose light

The warning light is telling the driver the gas cap may have been left off when the tank was filled.
If the cap is on and tight, the cap could be defective, or there could be a leak in the fuel tank venting system.

Why would gas cap warning light come on? 2007 dodge charger.

The gas cap warning comes on if the gas cap is not sealing the system properly, this can be a loose cap or a defective cap. There are other reasons like a defective fuel tank pressure sensor for the evaporative emission system ( The "evap" system retains fuel vapors and stores them to burn in the engine later during the purge cycle), but that is less common in this car.

I have honda odyssey and the service engin coms on and the cod is p1456 so ineed to figur out thanks.

This probably means:
  • P1456: Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (Fuel Tank System)
  • Usually this is because your gas cap was not fully tightened. Be sure to turn it until you hear a click.
  • After you tighten the cap, it might take a couple days of driving before the light goes-out.
  • Be careful to tighten your gas cap regularly, because otherwise it puts a heavy strain on your emission system.

Check light went on

The check light indicates an event has occurred that requires your attention. It could be anything from a bad sensor to a plug misfiring.
You need to get an error code readout. You can get a readout from many auto supply parts stores. The loaner meter is free. You can call around. Try Advance Auto, AutoZone e.g.

2003 Honda Accord Check Engine / Maintenaice Requeried

If you brought your car to Honda for service, they probably forgot to reset the maintenance reminder. If you took it to another shop, they probably did not know how to reset it. Anyway, the reset procedure is:

Put your key in the ignition
Turn the key to the II position for a couple of seconds
Then turn the key to the off position
Now push and hold in the odometer reset button
While still holding the odometer reset button, turn the key back to the II position
Hold for I think 10 seconds or so and your maintenance reminder light should reset it self.

S40 Warning Lights

Faults can happen from day one, on. That is why there is a warning system.
If the warning light is on, you must access the computer system to access which fault code is present. Many different companies manufacture tools to do this from an inexpensive generic one from Launch Tech of China to the original factory unit made for Volvo by Balco. Depending on the fault code, the most common one that I see is caused by the fuel cap either installed incorrectly or not fully tightenned. Check your fuel cap and if it is not installed correctly or not fully tightenned, please re-install. If the fuel cap was the problem, the warning light will go off by itself in a few days.
