Occationally a humming sound comes from the engine compartment of my 2006 Corolla. It does not change oitch with rev's or gears, does not change with clutch operation. The sound is as if by a faulty hydrolick-valve or something of that sort. I have the feeling that it is connected to the steering but this car does not have the system that makes the steering heavyer at higher speeds. The sound always dissapears as you slow down to about 20 m.p.h.
Possibly a wheel bearing or tyre noise from badly worn tyres
while driving in a straight line and noise is present change lanes or shimmy car left and right if noise gets worse or better wheel bearing problem
also if noise gets worse in normal town driving speed and gets less at higher freeway speeds check your wheel bearings
