To replace the speedometer drive gear on a vehicle with a part number 52068151, you will need to follow these steps:
Gather the necessary tools and supplies. You will need a new speedometer drive gear, a socket set, a ratchet, a torque wrench, and any other tools required to access the speedometer drive gear on your vehicle.
Locate the speedometer drive gear. The speedometer drive gear is typically located on the transmission or the transfer case of your vehicle. Refer to your vehicle's service manual for specific instructions on how to access the speedometer drive gear.
Remove the old speedometer drive gear. Use the socket set and ratchet to remove the bolts or screws that hold the old speedometer drive gear in place. Carefully remove the old speedometer drive gear from the transmission or transfer case.
Install the new speedometer drive gear. Place the new speedometer drive gear in the same position as the old one and secure it in place with the bolts or screws. Use the torque wrench to tighten the bolts or screws to the specified torque listed in the service manual.
Test the speedometer. After replacing the speedometer drive gear, test the speedometer to ensure it is functioning properly.
You replaced what speed sensor ? Do you mean the VSS - vehicle speed sensor ? Wheel speed sensors for the ABS - anti-lock brakes system are sometimes used for the speedometer info on some vehicle makes , but not yours . Where on the vehicle did you replace the speed sensor ? Could be the speedometer is bad .
1989 Mustang speedometer is cable drive so VSS will not affect.
If over 140k miles the speedometer is likely worn out.
My company SpeedometerRepair.com can repair or another speedometer shop.
Well you know it does not have a speedo cable since you replaced the speed sensor in the transmission. My guess would be a problem with the speedo or cluster.
The first thing you can always do is check your fuses. there might a blown fuse that need replacement. The 1990 Legacy has a mechanical speedometer . The speed sensor is a read switch in the speedometer head itself. So
if your speedometer is functioning ( needle working properly ) then the
internal read switch is defective. That requires replacing the entire
speedometer OR it can be a defective connection between the speedometer and the
ECU.If the speedometer is not working, then you can
have a defective speedometer, cable, speedometer cable adapter ( on the tranny
) or internal speedo gear in the tranny.Thanks. you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.
I've had a similar problem with my '94 prizm. I had to replace the instrument cluster about seven or eight years ago because the speedometer quit working. After replacing with a used instrument cluster it's been working fine till now. However, the problem is back again....so I'm looking for another used one. There is definately a weakness in this speedometer design when the mileage on the car gets high. Your problem is different since you replaced both the sensor and the speedometer and it still doesn't work. Chances are, you got a speedometer that didn't work to begin with. I would try another used one.
Unscrew the speedometer cable from the side of the transmisson. Pull the cable out of the transmisson. While someone else sits in the drivers seat and looks at the speedometer you turn the end of the cable quickly. If the speedometer doesn't move the cable is faulty. Replace it
To check the speedometer only disconnect the cable from the speedometer and insert a small screwdriver.Turn the screwdriver quickly. If the speedometer doesn't move then the speedometer is faulty and must be replaced.
the odometer part of the speedometer has more than likely broken, or is just work out. you can't replace just that part of it either, you'll need to look around or search google for a replacement speedometer. bear in mind that some laws come into play when replacing the speedometer / odometer on a vehicle as well.
just have your star screu driver take off the speedometer cover take out the speedometer and replace bulb. and also take out the door mat and replace bulb.
1 - Remove the old speedometer cable from your car, first take off the doghouse and then the engine cover.
2
- Remove the screw underneath the dashboard and take down the steering
column. This will give you access to the back of your speedometer.
3 - Take off the drive shaft bolt, and "O" ring, insert the speedometer cable through the firewall.
4 - Remove speedometer cable securing clamps from the engine compartment and on the transmission.
5 - Release the drive shaft nut from the "right angle" adapter (The nut is attached to the back of the transfer case).
Installing the Speedometer Cable
1 - Place the square end of the speedometer cable into the adapter and secure the drive shaft nut.
2 - Pull the speedometer cable through the firewall to the rear of the speedometer.
3
- Secure the "O" ring and attach the speedometer cable to the rear of
the speedometer/odometer. It should be engaged in the speedometer's
square hold. Tighten the drive shaft nut again.
4 - Replace
the clamps that will secure the speedometer cable onto the transmission
and in the engine compartment. Replace the engine cover.
5 -
Drive your car slowly to be sure your speedometer is working properly.
If it is, replace the doghouse. If you're stilling having problems,
take the car to your mechanic.
