Cranks, no start on 97 GMC van with 350 Vortec. Fired up with starter fluid

if it starts with starter fluid then its a fuel problem. check the fuel pressure and volume with a gage. these require at least 56lbs pressure to open the injectors and if the pressure is at 52lbs the they will not open. these use the pressure to open the poppet injectors and have a problem with the spider lines cracking and leaking fuel inside the intake. this is probably why it won`t start on its own.

I have a 1996 chevy z71 5.7 vortec. we replace the motor with a new long block. all we had to do is put the intake on it. replaced the rotor and the pick up coil. checked fuel and getting fuel from the...

I believe I have answered this at least twice already. The pick-up coil is what tells the ECU to fire the injectors. If the ECU is not getting the signal then either the pick-up coil is no good, not getting power, or not properly grounded. The same for the ECU....it must get power, the signal from the pick-up coil, and a ground.

1996 Chevy z71 5.7 vortec. Changed motor and put everything back together and it will not start. Have good spark and fuel. But not getting fuel to injectors. If I take and poor fuel in the intake it tries...

There are several things that tribute to how the injectors fire, but the ECU is what actually fires them, the pick-up inside of the distributor is what tells the ECU when to fire them.

I have a 1997 GMC Jimmy with a 4.3L Vortec V6. It will turn over but won't start. It's getting fire and fuel. All the dash lights come on when the ignition is turned on and you can hear the fuel...

On the vortec engines they require 56 pounds of fuel pressure to start a few pounds shy of that you have a dead vortec you will need a fuel pressure guage to verify

4.3 vortec on my s10 won't start. squirted starting fluid and it started, ran but sluggish. shut it off for 30 minutes not starting again

More than likely you have a fuel pump gone bad. Fuel pressure on the Vortec needs to be at 60 psi. Check your fuel pressure, and if lower than 60, replace the fuel pump.

You could take ou the fuel pump relay and replace it with another one just like it from the fuse box under the hood. That will let you know if the relay is bad.

If you have that spider fuel system, that system is noted for problems. I'd use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. Also, the poppet valves can stick.

Hard to start chevy 350 vortec

You will need to do a fuel pump pressure leak-down test, the pump must not loose more than 5 PSI overnight, u will need a cheap fuel pressure test guage, the test port is on the fuel supply rail to the injectors on the intake manifold, it looks like a tire valve but metal with a plastic cap on it, u may be able to borrow this guage from Kragen, Autozone or a parts store like them, if not they are very cheap, less than $20 US. Run the engine with the test guage hooked up, turn off the engine and then check it in an hour or so, if it drops more than 5 PSI then u will need to replace the fuel pump in the gas tank. One note make sure the connection for the guage is tight with no leakage or the test is invalid

1996 silverado 5.7 vortec cranks but wont start. fuel pump, gauges, "idiot" lights, blinkers do not work. flashers and all the rest of lights operate. Just replaced coil and this happens

Had the same problem with my '96 Silverado with 350 Vortec. The truck would only crank. It would start if fuel was poured down the throttle body. Could not hear the fuel pump hum. Fuse was good, but could not hear relay click. Relay was good, Did some electrical wiring trouble shooting. Turned out that one of the connectors that clasp onto one of the pins of the fuel pump relay wasn't making a good connection, too loose. I just stuck a peice of wire into the connector and pushed the relay back in. Relay clicked, Truck Started. It's been more than 4 yrs. since I made that McGuyver fix. Still firing.
