My 1996 jeep grand cherokee has trouble starting

Sometimes when its cold or in the early morning it wont crank up its kinda like its out of gas but has gas in it . it will turn over but will not fire up if it does crank then if at a red light it will die and then takes 30 minutes or so sitting there before you can crank it again. also my air conditioner blows out the top of the dash by the windshield is there a hose that has come loose from under the vehicle

Likely your fuel pump has failed or the filter is extremely dirty...Do a pressure test before replacing...pump is about $200. other problem could be from broken or disconnected vacuum line , bad control or bad vacuum servo motor for a blend door for the heater/.A/C.

My cherokee will start sometimes and sometimes it wont i have replaced the main computer, crankshaft sensor, distributer, complete tune up and the problem still remains

Does it only give trouble starting in the mornings, when the engine is cold or anytime and at any temperature? Did you replace the computer with a new or rebuilt unit?

I have a 96 jeep and it runs fine, but sometimes when i go to start it wont, just turns over and nothing then i can wait a few min and itll fire up or i can use gas or starting fluid, im kinda lost as to...

You need to check, when the jeep is cold, if the check engine light comes on when you turn the ignition switch to on, before cranking the engine. If that light does not light up on the dash immediately, then the jeep won't start until it does, which can be as short as a few minutes to as long as 20 minutes. That would be a classic sign of a bad ecu, slowly getting worse, that needs repair. Check it out and post back here in this same thread with your findings.

1996 jeep cherokee strait 6 wont crank in the mornings and sometimes at all.when driving it will start to cut out and backfire.I've changed crank position sensor 2 times, plugs, wires,distributor,ignition...

Hi,
I own a 96 Cherokee. Had a problem with it not starting randomly, havent ever really had any running issues like that last 40-50k every so often it will kinda bog down when you first are driving and you have to let of the gas but happens rarely and haven't pinpointed it yet. Anyways back to the starting. Have you checked the ground to the block? I replaced all my positive and negative wiring and that helped. Hop this helps at all. and good luck. Also check your vacuum lines, one running along the passenger side fender is definitely one place.
Take care,
Lee

My 1996 jeep grand cherokee started up this morning then cut off on me. now it will roll over but wont start

check the fire at the coil as well as distributor if you dont have fire there when cranking then check your igniton module if there is fire? then your fuel system has shut down could be a faulty pump / filter/ or stuck injector which happens in cold weather and having just a drop or two of water in your fuel system

My 1996 jeep grand cherokee doesnt start half the time

Sounds like a poor connection somewhere...Best time to check is when it's in no-start condition...When running, obviously whatever isn't working is (temporarily). Once you identify the system (fuel, spark etc) that's not working, check all wires and connectors for good contact and continuity.

97 Grand Cheeroke wont start in the morning when its cold out

Is it fuel injected or carb??? Try holding the gas pedal to the floor while turning the jeep over. This sometimes makes gas pump thru to the cylinders. Have you changed the fuel filter???? I know alot of jeeps have a fule filter with a bypass back to the tank, and sometimes the filter will be bypassing to the tank instead of the the motor. Check it out?????

98 Grand Cheeroke wont start in the morning when its cold out

10-12 volts, that is low, have the battery load tested at a local parts store like Autozone, it's free.

93 Grand Cherokee 4.0 trouble starting in cold weather

Welcome to the forum. Your question has to many variables. Cold weather out here in Cen Cal this time of year is mid 40s. Is the problem when the vehicle is cold as in ovrernight but starts ok when it is warm? Does it crank OK but seem like it's not getting fuel? If you hold the throttle slightly open, does it start OK?
