I need to find the location of the speed sensors on a 1996 town and country. If any one has any pictures or diagrams that would be so helpful. Thank you
The speed sensor is on the tailshaft of the transmission,on the passenger side of the car,it has 3 wires. The output sensors are located on the front of the transmission about mid-way up the housing & only have 2 wires. Note the output sensors are not responsible for vehicle speed. Only the output shaft speed is recorded. They are for finding the correct cvi(clutch volume index) only. If you have a cvi issue, the transmission is toast.
Well then,if you know it all,go for it. I'm only a measly 5 star gold Master Tech & have over 17 years experience. How dare I !! Ammco, btw, is a very good company. They built my trans for my 1970 Dodge Dart 340,built to the hilt. The trans blew & they towed it 85 miles back & rebuilt it again. No charge. Mine was a full race unit they no longer build. They still have an incredible warranty & good service.

If you have a 4 speed unit, there is an input speed sensor and an output speed sensor on the transmission.both of them (2 wires sensors)can be seen from the front of the vehicle, of course under the hood :)
the output sensor is the 2 wires sensor on the left side of the vehicle.Don't foeget to replace the connector!

The input and output speed sensors look identical on the connector side. The one over the solenoid pack is the input, the one closer to the left frame rail or left front wheel is the output sensor. I hope this helps.
SOURCE: transmission input speed sensor location
It is located on the front of the transmission. you will see 2 of them one on the left under small transmission lines it is the input then to the right behind the radiator overflow there is the other one. Easiest way to change them is with a 1" deep well socket

A 3 SPD TRANS DOES NOT HAVE INPUT/OUTPUT SENSORS..ONLY A VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR..IT IS LOCATED ON TRANS EXTENSION HOUSING WHERE RIGHT SIDE AXLE COMES OUT OF TRANS..1 BOLT AND A WIRE CONNECTOR

According with repair manual, output speed sensor is located on the
Transmission, generally positioned over the park gear and monitors
transmission output shaft rotating speed; check some details in the next

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate
your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about
this answer.
Thank you for using Fixya, and have a nice day.

I know that the transmission is not toast. I took the car to amacco and they tried to tell me it was as well. I then took it to a friend of mine that said that the codes he pulled did not indicate a replacement of the transmission. But when it is driven, the speedometer bounces all over the place and then that causes the transmission to bounce all over.
I have done a ton of research on this issue and have found that 95% of the time it is the output sensor, or the sensor that is under the battery.
