SOURCE: truck dies but engine keeps running. battery or alternator?

You need an alternator....well unless your belt came off or got very loose. The truck continued to drive because the battery had enough juice left to run the ignition system, but after you shut it off there was no where near enough to turn the engine over or possibly even run the starter. The battery will have to be charged and a new alternator installed.
Hope this helps.

Your first mistake is having a "diagnosis" by a parts counter sales person.
I wrote an article about his very subject. You might find it helpful. Click the link below to read the article:

What Else Could Be Wrong?

Then, you did not list the code that you got the first time, so there is no way of knowing if the parts sales person told you correctly on the first time or not.

Diagnostic Test Code (DTC) P0058 is defined by SAE J2012 as "HO2S Heater Control Circuit High Bank 2 Sensor 2" (SAE J2012 is the standard by which all vehicle manufacturers must define the "generic" or "non-vehicle specific" diagnostic test routines necessary to properly diagnose and repair their cars.)

To understand what is going on here, it is very important to understand that this code definition DOES NOT tell you to replace the oxygen sensor. This is an oxygen sensor heater CIRCUIT code. The heater circuit on your vehicle includes the battery voltage (B+) supply circuit and the heater control (HT) circuit to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Failure of either of these circuits will cause DTC P0058 to set.

The B+ circuit consists of the BLACK/RED wire at the oxygen sensor connector which gets its power from the EFI 2 fuse (10 Amp) located in the engine room junction block. There are several things powered by this fuse and there are several splices and branches in the wire. Voltage MUST be checked at the O2 sensor connector.

The control circuit for the Bank 2 Sensor 2 heater is the WHITE/BLUE wire that runs only from the O2 sensor connector to connector E7 PIN #33 at the PCM.
BOTH of these circuits must be check to make sure they are not shorted to ground and that they have continuity to their connections at both ends.

Also, after repairs are made, all engine control codes must be PROPERLY cleared using an appropriate scan tool in order to make the check engine light turn off and to prevent additional problems with the engine control system. Many uneducated do-it-yourselfers will tell you to disconnect the battery cables to accomplish this. That is NOT the correct way to do it, and this can cause voltage spikes that can damage sensitive computer equipment in your car and possibly cause fault codes to set in several of the computer modules in your vehicle.

Many do not believe that this is possible. If you want proof, pull the plug on your home PC and plug it back in a few times and see if it doesn't wreck your hard drive....

2007 rav 4.Battery light came on, drove 20 miles on hwy. stopped, shut car off.started car with a very slow crank. Power steering was gone, all warning lights came on barely made it home. now dead.

Used your battery up just getting home. Now recharge the battery, and test the charging system- could be a bad alternator not charging the battery.

Normally, the alternator powers all the car's electrical needs when the engine is running. If the alternator fails, the battery will then be used to run the electrical needs until the battery is depleted, then the car will shut down. Dead, just like yours. No big deal, just find out why the charging system stopped.

Iam having problems with. I replaced the Battery and Alternator which were both bad. It will start but it runs for about 4 seconds and then it shuts down, I know its a fuel problem just not sure what

try using a scan tool to reset the ECM cpu program as it has become corrupted by the battery removal
after that run the vehicle for as long as possible then run the fault codes

I have a discharge warning light on in my car. The car will start and run for a while (on a charged battery) but it soon powers down (dash and cabin lights dim to almost zero) and the car shuts off.

alternator or associated wiring suspect... test for 14.4 volts at battery when all is hooked up proper and running.. if less replace alternator or diagnose further the wiring to and from alternator

Where is my auto shut down relay switch on a 99 cadillac deville

No, this is not a SHUT DOWN RELAY.. The Emergency Fuel Shut off is one on... It is ON until you reset.

you are having a Heating system Electrical and you are getting Feedback into your System and it will continue until you address the root of the problem.

You need to find a GOOD Automotive Electrician

Battery light came on and car wont start now when i shut it off

will engine crank?? if not, recheck battery cable connections. if vehicle ran until shut off, tells me that your charging system kept vehicle running until vehicle was shut off. alternator light can be related to faulty alternator and or bad battery.

Vehicle starts runs than quits. It won't turn over after that until it sits for a while

Bet it's been running with the check engine light on for awhile. Scan the car for the reason the check engine light is on. Coolant senser saying it's colder thatn it really is and an oxagen senser grounded will both do this. No oil in the engine or water in the oil will do it too.
