I have a 2009 Ford Focus, I keep an eye on the little light that tells me what my average miles per gallon is. It usually stays in the 30 to 32 mgp range but yesterday I noticed that it had dropped to 28 mpg. I had about 3/4 tank of gas in the car. I drove it about 3 miles and the mpg continued to drop down as low as 24 mpg. The gas hand did not move and still it shows just under 3/4 tank. I have not driven the car more than 5 miles today but the mpg continues to drop. What could be the problem?

The most likely problem is that the gas you bought most recently was a "summer blend" designed to give you LESS MPG! That's because the companies want more profits, NOT better fuel economy, which would give those companies LESS profits instead of MORE profits!

SOURCE: Spuratic fuel gauge

the fuel gauge and fuel pump is one assembly in the fuel tank. You will need to drop the fuel tank. May be a loose connection or faulty sending unit

you are either lacking SPARK or FUEL. You put 5 gal in the tank, but is the FUEL PUMP working ? The lights and radio operating only indicate ther is power in the battery.. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: POOR GAS MILEAGE

Have you changed the fuel filter? I know it sounds weird but a plugged filter will make a truck use more gas. The computer tries to compensate for less fuel by commanding the injectors to open longer. Also a plugged filter will cause excess back pressure on the fuel pump making it loud.. Good Luck.

SOURCE: 2002 Tahoe gas leak on top of tank

The top where the pump goes in is could be leaking. Have it checked ASAP, a gas fire is a dangerous thing.

How much money in gas will i spend in a 224 mile trip, at $2.29 a gallon?

Depends on miles per gallon of vehicle. Average mpg of say 15 mpg would take 15 gallons to travel 225 miles.(15x15=225). At $2.29 per gallon @15 gallons=$34.35. So figure out mpg of your vehicle and do the math.

I have a 2001 isuzu rodeo and my gas needle is broke, how much would it usually cost to get fixed, how many highway miles per gallon and city miles per gallon please?

You would need to check with a local garage for repair prices.
To find your average mileage, fill up the tank, write down the mileage, then do it again at around 200 miles. Divide the mileage traveled by the number of gallons used. I would recommend filling up after you have used about 8 or 9 gallons to prevent running out of gas. You can't go by the federal mpg numbers because everybody drives differently.

Hi i got a focus ghia 2 litre on a 51 plate, the electronic computer, which tells you you have 20 miles left before you run out of fuel , is that acurate ?? regards chris..

That should be acurate to about a few miles, it take the average miles per gallon to find its reading, a good test would be to put a gallon of gas in the car and drive until it tells you you have 2 miles left and then go get gas, this way if you run out you will be able to put gas in, i think this would be a good way to test the system. good day.

How many miles do u get for a full tank of gas on a v8

It just depends on your tank size. You probably get about 15 -18 miles per gallon. 13 gallon tank would be around 200 miles. 15 gallon tank around 232 miles.

Repair of auto gear

If you are getting 18 miles per gallon you are doing very well. The normal MGP is 14-17 miles per gallon, so no problems there. Is the transmission fluid at the proper level? When was the last time your transmission fluid was changed?

I have a 1997 ford f-250 4x4 and its lousy on gas

You could fill the tires with Nitrogen but it will cost about $15 a tire. You will gain 1.5 - 2 miles more a gallon. Big trucks were made for pulling and hualing only. If your looking at gas mileage then you need a focus.

2007 kia rondo seems to use alot of gas

I have the same issue of low gas mileage. My 2008 Kia Rondo with V6 (2.7Lt) gets 20-21 mpg in average. Even for highway mileage, it is around 21-22mpg. Very poor gas mileage. Disappointed. I hope it would improve in the future.

The previous post is untrue! MFA means MultiFunktions Ansiege (pronounced AAN-zeeguh).
This is a German- Americanism for Multi-Function Indicator.

The MFA displays the time, time driven since the ignition was started, miles driven since the ignition was started (trip miles are displayed under the odometer), miles per gallon, average miles per gallon, and outside temperature. I think that's it. If you click the little button on the underside the wiper switch, you can toggle between 2 different trackings. If you HOLD that button, you can re-set the avg. mpg's (but not the current mpg's, they are calculated every 30 yards), time driven, miles driven. Contrary to the previous poster's solution, it does not actually indicate anything is wrong with your car! (but they were right about scrolling through the indications with the side rocker switch) the malfunction indicator is on the cluster, it is a little engine block with a lightning bolt through it. It usually means you need an oil change. If it blinks, you have a catalytic converter problem. Hope this helps.
