What says it's over heating ? Temp. gauge ? Message on DIC ? what ? GM instrument clusters had problems with stepper motors . 2003 to 2006 . Replaced bunches of them . people would think the vehicle was really over heating , but wasn't . After replacing all the parts like you did ,an still not fixing the problem ,would bring to the shop . The proper way to diagnose would be to hook up a factory or professional scan tool an see what the temp sensor is telling the PCM - engine computer . Use a infrared thermometer an see what the temp is . does it match what the scan tool shows . What info is the instrument cluster receiving from the PCM over the class 2 serial data network . Do all this from the driver seat before replacing parts . Your best bet ,take it to a qualified repair shop.

Have you shop perform a "leakdown test." You probably have a bad head gasket )or a leak in the gasket).

If your loosing coolant then this is the reason for over heating. If it is leaking around the intake gasket then it could possibly be the intake gasket itself. What you should do is have the cooling system pressure tested. The throttle body gaskets were good for leaking coolant on these 3.8 engines. There was a recall on them at one time. Not sure if it would still be covered. You can call the dealership and give them your vehicle identification number and they will tell you if there are any open recalls on your vehicle. This would be a free repair on the throttle body only.Hope this helps.Good luck.

What's chances that the temperature gauge or sender itself is wrong?
Is the heat exceptionally hot? What temperature is the heater dicharge when the gauge reads 260?
I think that the sender is not expensive, try that. An auto parts store could get you an inexpensive dial gauge that you might be able to install in place of the sender.

It is a Grand Am, you really need to check the head gaskets. They are a weak point in theses cars with 6 cyl eng. They are cheep chinese gaskets /products.
Make sure there is no water in the oil or leaking from the outside of the heads.
Hope this helps
