Your coolant temp sensor is not registering. It probably set a trouble code, that's why your remote vehicle start is not working. The temp sensor is located at the rear corner of the engine block on the back side of the engine. This will be the corner of the engine closest to the driver. The temp sensor may be faulty, unlugged or there could be problem in the circuit. Even if you find the sensor unplugged and you plug it in, the code will have to be cleared before the remote vehicle start works again.

try replacing your temperature sending switch. That it what tells your gauge or idiot light where to read or light to come on. It may have a short in it. Or a short between the two.

A faulty temperature sending unit. It should be located on or near the thermostat housing. If any of your gauges reads zero, the check gauges light will come on. Sometimes even if the fuel gauge gets too low, it will trigger the light. It may be the connection at the sending unit. It may have become loose so wiggle it and make sure it is securely connected to the sending unit. If the temp. gauge needle pegs at the top of the gauge, it means the sending unit has grounded out and is faulty. If it jumps, reads off or not at all it could be a faulty sender or a bad connection.

It's usually caused by one of two main problems, either the stepper motor on the cluster's circuit board is going out or the sending unit on the fuel pump is going out. If the engine is reaching normal temp, you would need to test the sensor on the intake and the gauge on the dash.
The sensor provides ground to the gauge.

Your coolant temperature sensor is bad,it's screwed into engine by thermostat housing,easy to remove,just disconnect electrical connector and get wrench and remove.

Do you know what is wrong with my 2006 BMW 330i if ihe service engine soon light is on and then i took it to the auto center and it says that the temperature is below regulating levels and the guy says...


If the code is accurately reporting the problem, it suggests that your thermostat is stuck open. On your car there are two thermostats. One is under the expansion tank, and I don't know what that one does (I have seen it only in the parts book) and the other is in the usual place, top front of the engine. It comes as a single piece with its cover. A little pricey, but if your car is really running too cold, it is hard on the engine and degrades your gas mileage.
Unfortunately, you cannot rely on the temperature gauge in the dash to tell you if it is really running too cold because the temperature gauge in these cars is non-linear. The needle sets right in the middle of the gauge over a fairly wide range of temperatures.
