If you feel this rattle while driving at low speed or turning at low speed it is likely a worn out steering shaft coupler, it is very common.
SOURCE: steering wheel popping when turning the wheel when
sounds like an inner axle joint (or CV shaft) has gone bad one way to check this is to look under the car at the front end and inspect the rubber boots that hold grease in the joints of the drive axles see if they are torn or missing if the bearings dry out and get road grime in them it can cause a popping sounds and if prolonged the damage can cause the axle to fail; as far as the shaking have the brakes inspected if the brakes pads were replaced and the rotors had not been turned this will cause a shaking when applying the brakes or you brake pads are worn out and need to be replaced have it check very soon or it can cost you more, also while someone is checking the brakes have them check the tierod ends and wheel bearings.Hope this helps you a bit.
SOURCE: 2005 Equinox feels like steering wheel is loose
It is common for the front sway bar links to wear out. This can cause a sense of looseness, with a slight rattle in the suspension when going over bumps, or when making turns. They cost about $60 a pair at auto supply stores, and can be changed in about 1 hour. There was also a GM technical service bullitin on this vehicle in regards to the steering column which is also a possibility, as well as one regarding loud knocking sounds related to the front strut spring cups.
