Sun roof will not close all the way on 2001 montero limited

need service get it?
the channel tracks are bad or broken or dirty.

I hate sun roofs most are made with cheesy weak cheap plastic parts. that LOVE TO FAIL. my Jeep is a convertible; vastly better

Try when closing, hold button for 5 seconds when already closed and attempt to open. If it opens all of the way. Keep button depressed and hold button when it gets all of the way open,hol for 5 additional second and repeat this open and closed. This will tell the body sunroof ecu Walt the travel limits are

caution if it opens you may not be able to close it again, this sounds like the track broke or something in the motor. lets hope its the motor as if its the track then the whole track needs to be replaced, there is no repairing a broken sunroof track.

pretty common on sun roofs over 10 years old( on any vehicle ), the rubber weather-striping needs replaced,if you look at it closely you will see where its cracking,broke and/or getting hard ( not soft and pliable anymore.) which allows water to get in, you can get new weather-striping at your local dealership parts department( they might have to special-order it).

i think you need a new motor for the sunroof

Does the sun roof do anything whebn you press the button. if not, check your fuses and the sun roof switch. If fuses are good you want to check to see if the sun roof motor is getting power. If it is getting power it could be the motor itself. If it tries to move but can't then you have a mechanical problem. it might be binding so try giving it an assist by pushing on it when pressing the switch.

The air coming in due to the elastic band which seal ,which prevent the air noise to come in.It is leaking somewhere,now what you have to do is to test where it is leaking,close the sun roof ,pour water on the sun roof see where it is leaking,The elastic is not fix well,see for it or u must see if the elastic have not been broken some where ...hope that help you and fix the problem

try disconnecting the battery again and leave for about an hour before reconnecting

check fuse F1.401, 30 amp in central junction box (in truck). Check your owner manual for fuse information.
Headliner must be removed to access motor.
