99 tahoe won't start after putting it in reverse and it died

First of all that piece that you are looking at is the belt tensioner its only purpose is to maintain the supertine belt within the pulleys. that would not make your vehicle shut-off unless if not operational. The only time you want to change them is when they make a high pitch, it shakes very badly or the pully is cocked or uneven.

If the belt breakes your vehicle will ceased automatically and you will loose all power plus your steering etc... so that been said.. you need to look more in depth and isolate the problem. I hope I answer some of you questions. Take care and god bless you, always...
