Check the ECM relay. Nissan has a recall for that relay, for that year. You can swith the relay with your defogger relay which should be next to it. The relay box is located under the hood on the passenger side. Hope this helps. Here's a re call link.http://www.thenewx.org/forum/showthread.php?t=39850

SOURCE: my dashboard light does not come up.

Hi,
I'm assuming you mean the backlighting that illuminates the dials and clocks?
If so, do all the other lights, such as on the heater panel, and window switches work?
If so it's just a problem with the instrument panel.
Have you tried operating the dashlight dimmer switch? Sometimes if it's left in the same position for a long time the connection gets a bit dirty (like a crackly volume control on a stereo)
So it might be an idea to work it back and forth to see what happens.
Did this happen suddenly? That may indicate a bad connection to the dash unit.
Give the dash a slap above the clock units (you never know, it's worked for me)
It doesn't sound like a serious problem
The bulbs in the dash do gradually "blacken up" and do have to be changed periodically.
But you don't notice until the last one has gone
Please check for ANY other electrical items not working first.
Electricity can do some strange things in cars.
Hope I've been of some help.
Kev.

SOURCE: my 2000 nissan xterra wont keep idle and it

try disconnecting the MAF (mass airflow sensor) - it is located after the air filter, usually a black box in the intake tube. Could also be the IAC valve which monitors the engine temp, that can be disconnected but will cause high idle if removed, dont know where it is on your car though.

If the MAF is faulty, disconnecting it will make the car idle and run again, but will generate a CEL (check engine lamp) on the dash just because the MAF is not seen by the ecu, but it will run on a default map till you get another one fitted.

SOURCE: Service engine soon light on my 2002 nissan xterra

If it's the indicator that literally says "service engine soon", and not the check-engine light, then you have no worries. That's programmed to come on at set intervals to remind you that routine service may be due soon (oil change, inspection, tire rotation, etc). It's not an indication of failure. Failures will be shown by the check-engine light. That one is nothing to worry about. Your owner's manual should have a procedure to turn it off.

SOURCE: why did my VDC, slip, ABS and brake lights come on

Hi there,

You should first of all check the fuse for the abs under the hood. If that is ok, then get ready to fork out a couple of thousand dollars to fix it. It is probably the abs actuator, due to a speed sensor malfunction. Both will need to be replaced. Don't bother calling Nissan, they will not help with this issue.

Although I have never had that specific problem with our 2005 Xterra. The first thing that comes to mind is a fuel delivery problem. Hope this helps.

Replaced the fuel level sending unit in 2005 Xterra...how do I get my Service Engine Soon light off?

I had that problem too but it ended up being the vent valve. It's a part that goes with emissions. It's the part of the car that when you drive it this vent closes and recirculates the emissions and when the car is shut off, it opens up to keep it ventilated. I'm having it repaired for $250.00 in New Bedford, MA. Hope this helps!

Vdc light and brake lights comes ON.

does the master cylinder have enough brake fluid in it, low fluid level commonly causes those two lights to come on you may wanna check your brake fluid level.

2005 Xterra - has done this twice now. After driving around town for 20 minutes or so, notice a slight hesitancy when accelerating, which then gets worse--the engine is running, but vehicle will not move...

Great truck by the way! Possible cam sensor malfuntion, located at the back of the cylinder head. I'd check the connector first, just disconnect and visually inspect. If it looks corroded or dirty, you may use WD-40 on both the sensor and harness connectors. Check the wires going into the connector for wear. Reconnecting may correct the problem. Check the simplest first. Get that code read as well, most auto parts stores will read it for free.

Get a Factory Service Manual, it can help diagnose and explain how to remove and replace parts. Here is a link to your 2005 Xterra Service Manual.

the vdc off can result because the steering input sensor needs to be re calibrated with the nissan consult2 .
the vehicle dynamic control uses input from the abs, vehicle speed sensor, air bag sensor, yaw sensor and steering angle input sensor.
