check the fuses and the relays first,,,the relays are under the hood and the fuse panel is under the drivers side panel inside the car.

Check the fuse for the A/C and try refilling the A/C with R134. You can buy the re charge kit at Auto Zone or Wal Mart, almost any Auto parts store. If the system is low on R134 the A/C compressor will not activate to keep it from burning out.
Try checking the fuse first then re charge the system with a can 12oz of R134. Just keep in mind not to over charge the system. Just follow the instruction and you'll be fine.
Keep me posted, be glad to help out.

SOURCE: Hello I have a 2000 Silverado
hook up manifold and open port valve (at hook up ends
make sure that manifold valve hi is shut open low side only
start engine switch a/c on max and blower motor to high and read pressures
its sounds like system is low (may have small leak) try to located with snifer
look for oily residue around conection or condensor(front a/c rad)
if you can locate have system evacuated to removed remaining freon
repair area if you can not locate leak have it evacuated and then charged
with nitrogen gas to 150 psi do not run system with nitrogen use soap and water
and spray entire system to locate leak will show up has bubbles repair and retest
if o.k. drain out nitrogen gas and vacum sytem to draw out any moisture if any major
component were change oil will need to be added to system they now have a flurecent dye
that could be added to system that will glow with black light next time system leaks
if it holds pressure and vacum you can recharged
some leaks are hard to find
just jumping the low presure switch for to long with system low will cause compresor failure
now if pressur all seems find low pressure switch could be faulty easy repair remove and replace
do not need to empty system
