The key has disintegrated, (black plastic with computer chip in). I can still turn the key and the engine tries to start, but I need the chip. What can I do to disable the chip.

TAKE A PEEK UNDER THE HOOD IN THE FUSE PANEL FOR THE FUSE AND RELAY FOR THE COOLING FAN. IF THE FUSE IS BLOWN THEN REPLACE IT. IF YOU SUSPECT THE RELAY TO BE BAD THEN TEST IT BY SWAPPING THE FAN RELAY WITH ANOTHER ONE WITH THE SAME PINS ON THE BOTTOM. MAKE SURE IT IS THE SAME SIZE AS WELL. HOPE THIS HELPS.. There is a Recall to replace your cooling fan module because of this concern.
Open your hood and look at the black box bolted to your radiator fan by the battery. If it does not have a green dot on it, you have not had the replacement fan module installed.
Contact your local dealer with your VIN handy to verify the recall has not been done and to schedule an appointment.
If the recall has been done, verify if you have power coming out of the module to the fans, as the fans do burn out eventually.... but rarely both at once.

Your throttle body likely needs cleaning.
Take the intake hose off and using throttle body cleaner or brake cleaner, spray a rag and use our fingers to clean the gunk off the throttle plate and the contacting area of the inside of the throttle body.

Hello. The check engine light comes on when the vehicle's computer has detected a problem with one of the components in one of the systems. To find out what exactly that check engine light means you have to hook the vehicle up to a computer scanner. Many auto parts stores now offer this scan for free, as do the AAMCO repair shops. After the scan is finished, the scanner will turn out the check engine light. Some vehicles check engine light also turns off if the battery is disconnected for two full minutes. Regards, Joe
