Temp switch fail most likely. fail safe keeps fan running so engine will not overheat. temp switch will be screwed into engine block. may be cover by cover, hoses or something else but pretty easy to replace. DO COLD for the sensor is in the collant port of the engine and will leak a little when changing. Good luck hope this helps.

Check for a switch at lower part of rad. Should see a wire harness & plug on a sensor at bottom of rad. This sensor/switch also operates fan on/off according to coolant temperature. You may need to disconnect battery to get at it safely.

I simple way to check for a head gasket problem is make sure the coolant is full . Then when the car is cold, prob let sit over night, Turn it on and let it run for 1 min. Then take the cap off the coolant resivoir. If it is bubbling...100% head gasket prob. This is the way my mechanic told me to check it at home. I am having the same problem. However I am now checking fuse and such. Hope this helps

Yes, it does sound like the starter soleniod. Have someone turn the switch while you tap the starter and solenoid with a hammer.Ssometimes it will make it operate but it still needs replacement. If the starter has not been replaced I would replace it too.
SOURCE: Why does the fan keep running on 2005 jetta after turning off
You are talking about the thermo electric cooling fan, its operation is independent of the car's electical system. It is switched on and off by the engine temperature. When you park, the engine heat soaks upward to heat the thermostat turning the fan on. It will run until the engine cools down and the thermostat switches it off. Quite normal operation.
