SOURCE: replacing factory radio
With that year vehicle it is recommended that you use a special harness because it has an factory amp and in order to get the proper wiring it requires the harness also if you don't use the harness you will loose your onstar and vehicle chimes and warning sounds.
SOURCE: I am trying to remove the center console of a 2003
There are 2 10mm bolts in the compartment hold of the center console that must be removed. Two similar 10 mm bolts must be removed at the front of the center console, near the driver's and passenger's lower legs. The top of the center console, where the shifter is located, snaps out. With this top piece removed, the cigarette and auxilary outlet can be disconnected. Four more bolts near the shifter bracket need to be removed, and then the console is free. Hope this helps someone. I needed to remove the center console to install a component for a car stereo.

SOURCE: I got a 2004 impala Afternarket radio problem
Did you use the correct harness adapter for the aftermarket radio? The factory radio systems use Class 2 serial data communications between the body computer module and the radio. The class 2 communications is what "wakes up" the radio.
Check out www.scosche.com and see if your vehicle might also require an interface module.
SOURCE: I just installed an after
In the wiring diagrams there is a COMPUTER DATA LINES SYSTEM wire. From what I have read the radio won't cause the car not to start. Did you make sure you didn't drain the battery? Is the Theft Deterrent light on? If it is you're going to need a scanner to get the codes. This is what the Theft Deterrent system does with the radio. I think if the Theft Deterrent light is on you will have to start there if not just diag a no crank condition.
