Hello,

You can start by checking the brake sensor behind, on the top side of the brake pedal to see if it's still in place and is touched when pressing the pedal.

The bulbs can also be burnt as there may be 2 filaments inside each one.

Hope it helps

Brake pedal has alot of back pressure and car moves in gear.Have to press real hard to stop. How to check abs pump if has one where or brake booster or master cylinder?Don't know how to trouble shoot or...

The air seeping is a dead giveaway. Your power brakes are now manual brakes, but stiffer. The diaphram in the brake booster has torn and the hissing noise is the engine vacuum escaping (you hear it louder when you depress the pedal right?). Replace the booster and you will be fine. The brake lights probably don't work because you can't push the pedal down far enought to release the switch. Please rate. Thanks.

Most brake light switches ratchet into position and self-adjust. To reset the adjustment, press the brake pedal part way down & pull the switch out toward the pedal until it clicks several times.

No brake lights

have you checked the fuses for the brake lights it is in the fuse panel under the dash on the driver`s side.if it is good and only the brake lights don`t work(signals work)then the nest step is to check the brake switch.this is under the dash at the base of the brake pedal and above.when you push on the brake pedal it pushes against or moves the switch enough to close the circuit.you should see a 2 wire plug connected to the switch.there should be power on one side of the switch at all times and when you push on the pedal there should be power on both wires.one wire supplies power to the switch and the other supplies power to the brake lights.if you don`t have power on both wires then you have a bad switch.NOTE fords have a problem with the wires breaking at the switch.

Brake lights on my 2003 Saturn L200 won't come one but the center brake light does light. Tail lights are working as well. Would this be the brake switch under the brake pedal?

I just solved a similar problem on my 2003 Saturn. The tail light assembly had gotten wet on a stormy night with the trunk open. There was no problem until the weather turned cold. After looking at the fuses, relays, brake switch etc. I got my trusty voltmeter out. Testing the voltage on the light blue wires in my tail light connector I found the required +12Volts for the brake lights when the brake pedal was pressed. Checking the lamp sockets I found the 12 volts was still present when the brake pedal was pressed.

The water that leaked into the bulb connectors (right and left) and spread the contacts when the water inside them froze! Blowing out the water and pushing the contacts back together solved my problem! Lesson...Keep the trunk closed when it's raining hard and dry out the bulb connectors if they get wet.

Saturn tail lights won't go off?

Tail lights or brake lights? if it is the brake lights then the light switch is malfunctioning or is stuck. it is usually located somewhere on the arm of the brake peddal. When you depress the brake peddal it pushes the switch in like a doorbell button and take your foot off, it releases and the lights go out.

Tail lights don not work including back window light and it is not a fuse either because I have checked. what is wrong. What can I check.

you can check the small button that the brake pedal pushes against when you push the brake sometimes this switch gets stuck in and does not let the brake lights come on its under the dash above the brake pedal it has two wires on it take them off and touch the two wires together and the lights should come on if they do the switch is faulty bestaluck glenn.......

Brake Lights

The brake lights are engaged by a switch when you press the brake pedal. It is a plunger type switch, then when released, turns on the lights.

It appears that the plunger is not extending and making the connection. Try press on the brake pedal with one hand, and plull out on the switch plunger, see if the lights come on.

You should be able to replace the switch for less than $10
