the late 90 tahoes and trucks had a corrosion problem with their abs systems crud rust corrosion would get under the sensor and lift it back enough to cause problems such as low speed activation at under 5 mph or codes for all sorts of problems or just plane old short out ---try removing the sensor and clean mount (scrape lightly and put a anti corrosive on hub mount an clean around sensor

I have a 2002 silverado and the abs and brake light stay on, any ideas?

You could have two separate issues or just one. First check the level of brake fluid. (brake light)Fill it and if the light goes out, then you have to use a CReader or scanner to get the ABS codes. Cold be wheel sensors, broken wire, or the ABS module. If you can't get the brake light to go out, then it is the ABS, three possible causes. One is the ABS module is dead. second is the pump has failed. third is a bad ground wire. check the ground first. The ground is the biggest wire going from the pump /module to the body. When these loose ground, I cut the end off and run a longer wire to a better spot on the body. When you see it, you will know why.

What brake ststem do 2001 silverados have? rear brakes

Hi. Your 2001 Chevy Silverado is equipped with Antilock Brake System (ABS). You will identify also if your car is equipped with ABS by looking at the instrument panel for a yellow ABS indicator light after you turn on the ignition.

All the best!

One headlight not working, getting 3 volts on connector. Is there a ground connection I need to search out?

You can either search it out, or create a new one. Locate the ground wire going to the headlight. You can either cut it and tape it off, or run a new wire into it, and ground it to the body.

Abs, Brake comes on at times along with Traction light 2001 cad. STS

sounds like you probably have a bad ABS sensor or a bad or grounded wire going to the sensor. the sensor is located in the wheel bearing hub next to the axle behind the tire.

ABS light stays on all of the time.

Your dealing with OBDII
I am dealing with OBDI "93 Caprice Classic"
***I have been told***
The code is read from the ABS light on the dash
If it blinkes 3 times and stays on, Bad ground, if it flashes more then that it's a bad sensor and the count will give you the bad sensor.
Unfortunatly mine blinks three time and I have not found the ground wire yet.
Good luck

How can I turn the ABS lights off in my 2001 Chevy Silverado

The ABS light indicates there is an issue with your ABS. If there is an Auto Zone around your area, have then scan the ECM for the DTC codes that has triggered the ABS light to come on. The common cause for this in your truck is a bad or dirty ABS sensor at the front wheels. Buy a can of brake parts cleaner and a brass feller gauge or you can just use the paper trick. Locate the ABS sensor on the inside of the front wheel hub and spray it clean with the brake parts cleaner and look for any damages caused buy corrosion or broken wire leads to the ABS sensor. If all wire leads are good, check to make sure the gap from the ABS sensor to the speed ring on the hub is correct. The gap should be 0.005 to 0.050 inch (0.127mm to 1.270mm), use a brass feeler gauge so it wont stick to the magnetic abs sensor or the thickness or a paper folded in fours. Good luck and hope this helps.
