SOURCE: how to remove a parking brake release handle on a 1999 chevy blazer

Are you talking about the Foot Pedal Assembly?
Has a couple of bolts attaching it to bottom of dash and the cable running to the rear brakes. Hardest part might be unhooking the cable.

How do I adjust the emergency brake?

Over here we call it a parking brake - hardly any of our cars are autos.

Parking brakes usually connect to the rear disc brake calipers but some manufacturers use a small drum brake in the disc centre for parking purposes due to the complexity of the caliper with integral parking brake.

When adjusting a parking brake it is important in most designs for the cable to be adjusted only to remove any free play without moving the caliper levers from the backstops and then if the parking brake lever or pedal travel is excessive it must be because of wear or other faults. Sometimes that basic requirement must be taken with a pinch or two of "experienced" salt...

Ford have a self adjusting parking brake I have experience of. A spring within the system preloads the cable eliminating all slack in the cable so the cable moves the caliper levers from the first. The main problem with the system is the preload spring is sometimes strong enough to overcome the resistance of the caliper spring and cause a binding brake. No manual adjustment was provided.
In that case I find fabricating and fitting brackets to anchor additional return springs to the calipers is a must.

How do you adjust the parking brake on a 2006 Mazda Tribute? Thank you very much!

On a 2006 Mazda Tribute which everyone tells me is a Ford Escape, in the cab, at the parking brake lever, remove the boot or decorative cover on the parking brake handle. The brake adjustment is a self-locking nut on the threaded end of the parking brake cable that connects to the left and right parking brake cables underneath the car.
The only adjustment possible is right there at the handle after you remove the boot that covers the parking brake handle in the center console. If the brake has been allowed to get loose, the cable may very well have come off the cable guide on the parking brake handle and there will be no braking and the cable may very well be cut or partially cut by the handle. With some straight screwdrivers push the cable into its guide and then adjust the parking brake.
But, underneath, there is no adjustment whatever possible for a 2006 Mazda Tribute.
On a 1991 F-250, yes, but not here. Don't get dirty for nothing. This is the easiest brake to adjust since the old screw handles.

Volkswagon Jetta, Brake warning light stays on.

Just for giggles... inspect the brake pads. The light is designed to come on when your brake pads are getting thin as well as low fluid level and emergency brake use.

Parkling Brake Console Light Stays On

Parking Brake Console Light Stays On The light is on because the brake fluid is low. The sensor in the brake fluid reservoir is signaling low fluid. This may be because leaking or the brake pads/shoes are worn down, so check to see if they needs replacement. In the mean time you can add brake fluid.

The Parking brake switch is activated by the brake handle. If you use a flashlight you may be able to see it next to the handle.

I released the parking brake on my 02 Chevy Tahoe and the handle (on the dash, not center console) hyper-extended and the brake would not release. I thought I would try to pull the wire with pliers but...

Hello all, this happend to my 2002 taboe as well. There is a handle under the dash below the steering column. The handle is conected via a cable to the parking brake foot mechanism. This cable is known to break. This part is available online through numerous websites for roughly 17-25 dollars, ebay has it but it goes for roughly 35 dollars. It is very easy to install with a pair of pliers and a wrench. The cable is about a foot long and comes with the release lever already installed.
