2007 chevy cobalt ls 2.2 power steering is ok till you come to idle an turn it stops turning sometimes is this a motor or mod. problem

OK remove the panel under the steering wheel becareful not to damage the trunk release wire or button you have to diconnect the wire from the button, after that is done you well see the power steering motor make sure all connector are in the large black and red are power and ground the other wire is the wire that is controled by the computer thats the one you have to make sure is in if it has a good connection then the motor is bad and has to be replaced.

Every vehicle should have the automatic trans fluid changes at 30,000 miles and never go over
3 years,even if the milage is less.
Also,do the power steering at the same time.

Could be a problem with key in ignition switch located on the side of the lock cylinder inside steering column. The one I worked on this was part of whats called clockspring assembly witch will be a dealer only part. Then you cut the two wire swtch off and splice it in so you don't have to remove steering wheel and replace the whole clockspring assembly. Might also be problem with ignition switch (inside column) that key lock cylinder ingages into. I have a couple of questions. Is power going to the dash and just not the starter? Is the security light on all the time and dosn't cycle out? There should be a anti theft reset precedure like leaving key on till light goes out. Good luck hope this helped

I have a 2007 Chevy Cobalt LS Coupe and have recieved two recall letters on the power steering.

It sounds like the power steering motor is overheating pre maturely. Changing the motor should take care of the problem. What really happens is the motor reports to the power steering module that it is over heating and the module is shutting power to the motor down, the motor is actually no overheating.

Your Cobalt is not equiooed with a Power Steering Pump. It has electric power steering. See the description below.

Power Steering - System Description and Operation
The electric power steering (EPS) system reduces the amount of effort needed to steer the vehicle. The system uses the body control module (BCM), power steering control module (PSCM), torque sensor, discrete battery voltage supply circuit, EPS motor, serial data bus, and the instrument panel cluster (IPC) message center to perform the system functions. The PSCM, torque sensor, not the EPS motor are serviced separately from each other or from the steering column. Any EPS components diagnosed to be malfunctioning requires replacement of the steering column assembly, also known as the EPS assembly.

these cars have electric power steering probably a bad motor but I would have it checked just to be sure

There is NO power steering fluid in a 06 Cobalt. It is electric! This is a flaw that GM is not willing to come to terms with. Try topix.com for the list of over 350 people that this has happened to. Also, the dealership wants YOU to pay for it. There should be a recall. VERY dangerous!
