This isn't a solution, but my daughters covers were draining her battery. We ended up leaving them in the upright position & disconnecting that motor :P

One motor controls both light covers. a control module sends a signal to the motor from the dash switch to open or close. if you open the hood and press the dash switch and the lights come on then its either the control module or the motor. if the motor is making a noise like it wants to work but isnt then you know the signal is getting from the module to the motor and the motor is the culprit.

If both have failed at the same time, it can only be a fuse or failed relay. The motors are probably fused separately from the headlights themselves.

Removal of headlight

Im pretty sure you use the button on the dash to raise the lamps with the light off, remove the covers on the side of the headlamp to expose the metal bracket that holds the lamp in place. When removing the bracket, be sure to only remove the screws that hold it in place- NOT the ones that adjust the aim.

How do I replace the headlight assembly MN133516

The 2003 Outlander utilizes replaceable (9007) headlight bulbs. If you're looking to replace the bulb(s);
1. Raise the hood.
2. Remove the plastic cover at the rear of the headlamp assembly by rotating it counterclockwise, and pulling it off. This will allow access to the headlight bulb.
3. Twist the bulb socket counterclockwise in order to remove it from the headlamp assembly. Pull the old bulb out of the socket, and use a clean cloth to install the replacement bulb. Do not touch the glass of the new bulb.
4. Place the socket back into the assembly, and twist it clockwise. Reattach the plastic cover, and close the hood.
Are you needing DIY instructions for replacing the entire headlamp assembly? Left (driver) or Right (passenger)?

Replace headlight

Hello,
Follow the process below to replace your headlight:
  • Prop open your hood and locate the release lever for the headlight assembly, the lever is approximately 2 inches under the two upper mounting bolts that hold the fender in place.

  • Press down on the release lever and then push it back up. Pull the headlight assembly forward and slide it out of your Beetle.
  • Unplug the electrical connector from the backside of the assembly. Look toward the top part of the backside of the assembly for a black plastic tab. Push down on the tab and pull the headlight cover up and out.
  • Pull the retaining clip off of the old bulb and remove the old bulb from the assembly by pulling it straight out. Align the bulb correctly with the headlight assembly by matching the marked tabs on the bulb with the raised notches on the assembly. Set the bulb inside the assembly, pushing it down carefully.
  • Push the ends of the retaining clip into the small holes on either side of the new bulb and snap the headlight cover on to secure it.

Take care and good luck

How do I replace the headlight assembly on a 2006 sebring?

  1. Remove the front bumper cover
  2. Remove the upper headlight housing mounting bolt and pushpin
  3. Remove the lower headlight housing mounting bolts
  4. Pull out the headlight housing assembly and disconnect the electrical connector.
Its pretty easy. Just raise the hood, see the two silver 8mm cap screws on top of the cross member that supports the radiator and fan assembly. Two screws on each side above the headlight housings. The outer screw is right next to the corner of the fender when the hood is raised. Remove the two screws, then the headlight assembly is loose. Just gently pull the headlight assembly forward enought to see the three lamp socket holders on the back side of the headlight assembly. From the outside corner to the inside are first, the parking turn signal, then the low beam lamp and finally the last, the high beam lamp. To remove the lamp socket, push the small plastic locking tab and turn the socket assemby counter clockwise about a half turn and remove the lamp. Now you can replace the lamp and install it back the same way you took it out. Don't touch the new lamp glass with your bare fingers. Oil from you skin will absorb into the glass causing the glass to turn dark and shorten the lamp life.

2006 Trailblazer Headlight Replacement

There are not two rods, there are two clips one under fender weild and one right above the light on top of the cover. Pull up on these two clips and pull the light forward a couple of inches and remove the dust cover. You have to take the air filter cover off to be able to reach in and replace the light. It took me about 10 min to figure these out but hope it helps out.

Change headlamp on a 1999 chevrolet malibu

The headlamp assembly on each side comes out as a unit. Raise the hood. Remove black plastic cover that hides the assembly. This is done by prying up on the plastic tabs on the cover that hold them in place. (They look like inserts) Once you pull up on the center portion of tab, the whole fastener comes out. Once the cover is out of the way, you will see these square black (about an inch Sq.) horizonal plates of which are connected to ball like fixtures (ball and socket) you pull up on the plates which release the ball to come out of the socket. The headlight assembly will swing out at the top, then raise straight up once it clears top. The headlight bulbs will now be accessible. Turn light bulb socket (with the wiring) counterclockwise 1/4 turn to remove. replace bulb. wipe clean with paper towel or cloth before reinstalling, as acid from skin or other contaminates will destroy bulbs. reinstall in reverse.
