I put a painless wiring on my 65 mustang. I have turn signals and tail lights but I blow fuses on the brake lights.

Does the fuse blow before or after you step on the brake? If it blows only after you step on the brake, and voltage from stop lamp switch only goes to rear brakes and not through multifunction switch. If only one connector at the rear for brake lamps, take connector loose, step on the brake, if the fuse still blows, the problem is before the connector. You could Use new wire from brake switch feed, when brake switch is activated, to the rear brakes. Leave pigtail at both ends, splice in new wire, You could let new wire just lay on the ground, for testing, from brake switch to rear brakes. If the brakes work and doesn't blow the fuse, Make the new wire permanent and route the wire properly. Just my opinion. I don't have wiring diagram for your model year.

Which fuse is for the Brake Lights on a 98 Mercury Mountaineer. It is NOT listed on the Diagram fir the Interior Fuse Box !!

They're part of the turn light fuse. Replace the turn signal switch. All exterior lights run threw it, except the high mount brake light.

On the fuse chart, what is the abbreviation for the brake light fuse

Should all be the same fuze. Check the bulbs and whether the harness to the rear lights that usually runs through the trunk hasn't been pulled.

2004 srx rear running lights went out. Lights come on when brakes are applied and when turn signal is applied

Sounds like you have a blown fuse. Check owners manual for location of fuses, should be under steering wheel.

No brake lights

This may sound confusing, so here goes.
Normally I would say check the turn signal switch because for decades the brake light switch power went thru the turn signal switch.
But in your case, its more complicated.
The wiring diagram looks like you have a wire from the brake switch and another from the turn signal that joins inside the right and left rear tail lamp assembly. There are also fuses in the rear fuse box including one for just the brake lights. So its possible that fuse is dead and yet the turn signals would work.
You may have to get a book with the wiring diagrams to trace the circuits.

99 mercury mystide had rear running light broken

If the driver's side tail light is working, it's not a fuse. Use a test light to check for power at the bulb holder. One terminal will be for tail light, the other for brake/turn light. If the is constant power for tail light, replace bulb. If no power, trace wiring from bulb holder to driver's side junction. Probable broken wire between the two tail lights.

Rear brake lights inop...3rd brake light works fine...

Switch module in steering column will need to be replaced or the brake switch itself at the pedal. There was actually a recall for the pedal switch that came out in early 02 Usually the switch in the column about $125.00 at the aftermarket parts stores

Tail lights and brake lights not working - not fuse - what can it be?

Brake light switch, located on upper brake pedal should be checked, that is most likely your brake light issue, but U say tail lights aren't working, but running lights do, tail lights and running lights I would consider to be the same, so can u clarify that for me? Let me know how the u do w/ brake light switch, and if u have issue w/ tail lights?
