Mixing two different types of transmission fluid

I need to add transmission fluid to my car ('33 Plymouth with a dodge transmission). Originally had ATF+3, but when I went to the auto parts store, they only had ATF+4 (a full synthetic fluid). Is it ok to mix the 4 (full synthetic) with the 3 (not synthetic), or should I drain all existing fluid and replace?

Where do I add transmission fluid to a manual transmission in a 1994 Plymouth Colt please?

Nothing specific to your vehicle, but the all have a drain plug at the bottom and a fill / level plug at the side. The bottles of oil have a tube and you squeeze it in until it starts to weep out of the level plug.

2005 dodge grand caravan transmission will not shift. radiator fluid rusty color

Check your coolant for any trans fluid mixing,& ck the trans fluid for coolant, the radiator may have an internal leak (trans/ coolant), If they are mixing within the rad, radiator needs replacement. If OK then there may be 2 separate problems. The cooling system may need service or the rad is rusted and there is a separate trans problem. Ck for fluid mixture first!

How much transmission fluid for 1988 reliant automatic transmission

Sources for your answer: 1) A Plymouth/Dodge/Chrysler dealer.
2) Any transmission shop. 3) Your owners manual.
If you have none of those, what I would do is add 3 quarts to your empty transmission pan, then start the car and let it warm up, without moving the shift lever from Park.
After it is warmed up, (about 5 minutes), check the fluid on the dipstick, and add half a quart at a time until it reads full.
I should guess it will be taking about 4 quarts.
God bless your efforts.

Transmission fluid all leaked out of 2002 dodge grand caravan, are they easy to replace?

Kelli,

replacing the transmission fluid is easy, but you really need to find out why and from where the old fluid leaked. Under the hood in the engine compartment you will find a dipstick (gauge to check the fluid level) which is essentially the same as the oil dipstick in its performance, but different in location. It should be clearly marked as such.

Pull dipstick out and insert funnel into the opening (filler tube) and add 4 quarts of ATF Plus 3 Type 7176. Start the engine and allow it to idle for approx. 2 minutes

Apply the parking brake and push down on the brake pedal while idling and run the gear selector through the gears, stopping at Park.

Check the dipstick and add fluid so that the level is 1/8 inch below the "ADD" indication on the dipstick if necessary. Allow the van to run for around another 10-15 minutes to achieve normal operating temperatures.

Check the fluid level again to make sure it reached the "Hot" indicator level on the dipstick, and add more fluid if needed and then replace the dipstick in the filler tube.

I would definitely find out why you have leaked all of your transmission fluid before refilling it.

I hope this helps and good luck!b989e6d.png
