I have a Ford Ranger 2001 4.0 V6 with 110k miles. Does the timing chain need to be replaced soon? I don't believe it ever has been replaced yet.

Hello;
The Ford motors are pretty good. I had 280K on a 2.9 V-8 that only needed the oil changed every 3K. Unless you have fluctuatuation in the timing then you should be ok.
These engines use a chain rather than a belt and have excellent life.
Thanks;

I have a 1993 ford ranger 4x4. Needs front lower and upper ball joints. To order them they ask for the spindle spline count. No tag is on the front drive. Vin number will not give the count. Where can you get it with out pulling the axle?

How long will a timing chain last on a passat with a v6 engine

Hi,
Actually the timing chain is for a lifetime, the only thing you replace is the chain guide and the tensioner.

Hope that helps you out!

I've often heard that some Pontiac engines (vintage 1980-2002) used a plastic or quiet type timing chain and sprockets. Owners of these vehicles I have talked to said that this kept them from buying...

Hi,
No one has ever used plastic gears and chains. Some of the older big block models used timing gears with nylon teeth. This is true for all manufacturers and I believe ford still uses them in some engines. The disavantage to the nylon teeth was they would wear out somewhat faster, usually in the 80K-100K range. The pontiac V6 3800 engine has had steel toothed gears from 1986 to present and considered the most reliable V6 model ever built. While it is rare to actually break a timing chain under normal driving conditions, it does happen in race applications. However, when teeth and chains wear out, rough running and high fuel consumption due to poor mechanical time is the result. 350 GM engines were recommended to replace timing sets at 80K miles for optimum performance and were notorious for chewing off teeth. The aftermarket high performance replacement sets were made of cast iron or tempered steel. Double roller chain types, while noisier, lasted longer with fewer timing relasted issues. I had a 1979 firebird for 17 years with 200K+ miles on it and it still ran like a champ, so like anything else, proper maintenance and good driving habits have a huge affect on engine component life....Mike

How long do the timing chain last in the 1995 4x4 nissan when should i change it i want to buy one with 97k on it will it need one soon

If it has a 4 cyl. engine, the timing chain should be replaced at 30,000 miles. If it is a V6, the timing belt should be replaced at 60,000 miles.

Timing belt broke on 1999 ford ranger

You are extremely lucky as your Ranger 2.5 L is not an interference engine so you will have no internal engine damage. Both V6 engines use a timing chain and do not use a belt so you must have a 4 cylinder. The belt on your 2.5L should have been replaced at 120,000 miles or 10 years. All you need to do is have a new belt installed and inspect the tensioner and you will be good to go. You will need a Gates belt # T276. Unless you are skilled have the belt replaced by a professional.
