Only one fan is coming on when i turn on the a/c
Second fan cannot run. What for it exists ? And how it can be put on run?
Both fans should run with the A/C engaged. If yours are not, I would try using a known working relay for something you don't need (horn or r window defrost) to put into the A/C Clutch relay. If the fans begin running when you do this, you have a bad A/C Clutch relay. The sensor doesn't sense when the vehicle is using the A/C, it senses the coolant temperature.
Yes both fans need to run while the A/C is running, this is because the A/C compressor puts a good amount of added load on the motor and heat is generated when the refrigerant is compressed. There should be a A/C fan relay under the hood in the secondary fuse/relay box,it has probably gone bad,if you have a shucks/kragen or autozone in your area they will test the relay for you.
OK, both fans need to run, ONE fan is the ENGINE COOLING FAN, regulated to only run when needed, not at all times! the other is the CONDENSOR FAN, should run CONSTANTLY while the A/C is ON!! this fan is controlled by the A/C system, the other by the ECT sensor! figure out which is working, then you know where to start the diag
and the COMPRESSOR fan has to work for the A/C to work due to the heat build up in the CONDENSOR, its sole purpose in life is to cool the FREON off in the condensor so it can condense and repeat the cycle all over again. without this fan the head pressure in the A/C SYSTEM will become too HIGH and the high pressure switch will shut the system down or it could blow the relief valve, or blow something in the system completely apart if these two parts fail. but that is the sole purpose of the condensor fan!! has NOTHING to do with the engine at all!
