2000 catera started running hot and causing oil pressure drop

2000 catera started running hot and causing oil light to come on. Should the cooling fan behind the radiator be on when the engine is running or only come on when triggered by temp? also when temp rises above the half way mark only one of the front fans comes on? yesterday was stuck in traffic and temp rose causing the fans to kick on but the oil pressure dropped into the red due to the temp and the oil light came on. when I got going the pressure increases on acceleration but the oil light stayed on. Is the engine temp causing the oil to thin too much? what is up with the fans? could it be a relay issue, if so which relay(s)?

You should be using 10W30 in summer. You may have 5 W still from the winter.

Did the temp gause go up past 1/2 way?

CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL SHOULD BE ON THE FULL MARK ON ENGINE DIP STICK. IF OIL LEVEL IS LOW.LOOK FOR OIL LEAKS UNDERNEATH CAR.IF ENGINE NOT LEAKING OIL CHECK OIL PRESSURE SHOULD BE 22 PSI @ 900 RPM IF NOT OIL PUMP FAULTY OR YOU HAVE WORN ENGINE BEARINGS.IF OIL PRESSURE OKAY YOU COULD HAVE FAULTY OIL PRESSURE SENDING UNIT. CHECK COOLING FAN TO SEE IF CAR COOLING FANS RUNNING WHILE ENGINE OVERHEATING.IF NO CHECK COOLING FANS RELAY AND FUSE IF ALL IS GOOD ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR FAULTY. IF COOLING FANS RUNNING WHILE ENGINE OVERHEATING.HAVE RADIATOR AND ENGINE FLUSHED OUT. REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.

2000 Oldsmobile Bravada. Engine is running hot, and I have intermittent heat. I've replaced the thermostate last week and now the problem is worse than before. Engine will get up to 260 check gauges light...

CHECK FOR LOW COOLANT.YOUR CLUTCH FAN COULD BE BAD IT CAUSING ENGINE TO OVERHEAT.WHEN ENGINE GET HOT THE SILICONE OIL IN FAN CLUTCH GET HOT CAUSE THERMOSTAT SPRING EXPAND CAUSE FAN CLUTCH TO LOCK IN TURN FAST WITH ENGINE TO COOL OFF ENGINE. IF FAN IS WOBBLY OR FREEWHEELING ITS BAD.

Well its like i have an oil leak when im running on the freeway my oil pressure goes up and temp goes down but when i stop my oil pressure goes down and my temp goes up???...what could this be a valve...

Valve cover leak (oil) will not cause this problem, what needs to be checked is your radiator cooling fan, more then likely not working, that's why when your going down the freeway it don't over heat, you have air going through radiator, but when at stop, no air going through radiator to cool coolant before it goes back through engine, starts to get hot, and oil will also thin out, and have low oil pressure, check cooling fan's or fan, for voltage, should have voltage at normal oper. temp. about 210 - 220 deg., if you do have voltage and fan are not on, replace fan motor.

Fuel injection system will not open up on a 2000 Cadillac Catera, it takes about 15 minutes before it will smooth out.

If it starts and runs and the check engine light isn't on then the fuek injection may not be the problem these cars are bad about the valve cover gaskets leaking and the spark plug wells where the wires connect to the plugs get submered in oil the engine will miss and stumble and not rev up until warmed up and may still stumble on hard aceleration even after warmed up. Low fuel pressure will cause almost the same thing as it will be have to checked also.n out sparkpuugs will also do the same thing

Help me please.....

You must use 10W30 oil in the summer. On really hot days, when you are stopped and in drive, the oil pressure will drop to almost zero (according to the dash gauge).
If this is not happening under the above conditions, you need to place a shop gauge in the oil sensor sender port and test for proper pressure. If it is low (out of spec), you need to ensure the oil sump is not plugged in the crankcase. If it's not plugged, you need to replace the oil pump and fast!

The ABS issue is probably caused by the EBCTM module on the back of the ABS modulator, loose fuse, or bad connection to the module. Affects the cruise and PS as well.
