SOURCE: I want to know how to change front struts on my 1997 Grand Prix G
anne its a long prosess,do you have the spring compressers or did your new ones come with springs?
first you have too pull the wheels then remove the brake calipiers then remove the tierod end then remove the halfshaft nut then un bolt the strut from the housing then take the three nuts off under the hood at the wheelwell
it will come out then if you dont have the new springs on the new struts you will need the strut spring compresser you can rent it at auto zone for 5.00

It depends on who does it. If you are doing it by yourself, I would allow at least a couple of hours on each side, although it should take no more than one per side. If you have air tools and a lift, it should take between an hour or two from start to finish, since removing wheels, bolts etc would be fast. Hope this helps you, Rick

If it is just a matter of removing the old unit complete and installing a complete unit then it is that easy. If you are removing the unit to replace the shock, then you will need a spring compressor. Or, if you take off the unit and take it to your local auto parts, which has a service dept. they will replace the shock for a small fee.

Not too hard but you have to remove the wheels and go into the trunk to remove the to nuts, under a cover.....
