SOURCE: Where on the transmission -- is the shift solenoid
It is located just under the pan in a block called the valve body, it contains 2 shift solenoids, and a million little canals for oil. There is no drain plug on it, just have to drop the pan and spill out the fluid, that drips for months afterward. You can change these things if you are handy, if not, don't even attempt it. Watch out for the check balls,

You have to both check and add fluid to these vehicles from underneath the vehicle. Find the transmission fluid pan and you will find two plugs. The lower plug will drain the pan and the upper one you can add fluid or check the fluid level. You will know that the level is correct when the plug is out and fluid barely leaks out of the hole. You don't want a lot coming out because you don't want to overfill. In order to get it into the hole you have to be some sort of tube to attach to the top of the bottle. They sell these types of tubes at your auto part store and they just screw on. It is very awkward, but you can actually put the bottle high enough to get the fluid in if you put it right to the left of the pan. The first time I did this on mine it was a pain but once you figure it out you will be good to go. Let me know if you have any other questions about your vehicle. SOURCE: location of transmission dipstick
Hello, Unfortuanetly the Rodeo does not have a dipstick and you must have a service technician check your transmission fluid by removing bolts on the tranny as if your were going to drain the transmission. I hope this helps you with your problem. A technician should not charge to much to do this for you either.

Lee2fixit doesn't know what he talks about on 99 Rodeos.
There is no dipstick tube - there are two access holes on the side of the transmission. The bottom one is to drain it out. The top one is to fill it back up. It is full when the fluid comes up to the bottom of the top hole.
Or you can take it to a dealer or service center to have it done.

There are two drain plugs on the bottom of the pan. remove the lower one to drain the trans fluid. To refill, use a pump and pump the fluid into the upper drain plug until it seeps out and re-install the plug, similar to refilling a manual trans.
Once this is done, Start the vehicle and run it for about 3 minutes, shifting through all gears (do not drive vehicle Remove the upper drain plug and let any excess fluid drain out. Done. This is as per Mitchell OnDemand.
