How do you remove key or pin from camshaft on 1996 2.3L ranger

Remove tappet cover. Find the third camshaft bearing cap, last one closest to firewall in the bakkie. Find hole in the centre of the camshaft cap. Its a 6mm pin hole. This is used to set the camshaft into timed position by rotating the camshaft until locked. Use a 6mm drill bit wrong side inserted. Camshaft is now in position and locked.

Diesel pump, find and locate on the diesel pump pulley a pin hole. This is the biggest hole and takes a M10 bolt. This hole aligns with the metal plate holding the diesel pump in position. This hole on the diesel pump pulley corresponds to a 5 o' clock position. Insert the bolt into the diesel pump pulley right through into the metal support casing. The diesel pump is locked when the the pulley can no longer turn.

The engine is locked into TDC also with a pin hole. Locate the oil filter, more or less inline with the oil filter find a pin hole 6mm in size where the engine and gearbox meets on the flatish section (flange of engine). Insert pin or bolt 6mm, slowly turning the engine until it is locked and cannot turn. This is TDC.

Fit timing belt, anti-clockwise.

Adjust tensioner using 14mm spanner and 8mm ellen key.

Make a mark on the camshaft pulley with some paint or marking pen.

Remove all the locking pins and slowly rotate engine at the crankshaft, a full revolution on the marked camshaft pulley (the mark you made on the camshaft pulley). This means the mark you made must reappear once, one revolution of the camshaft.

Reinsert all the locking pins once a complete revolution of the camshaft has been observed.

Check if all the pins can be easily be inserted, if so all is done.

Remove the locking pins.

Done.

If you can get the key to turn, it's easy. Under column there are 4 holes in cowl the smaller one lines up with pin that needs to be pushed in. Use a pick and push pin and turn key... Pull out lock cylinder. If it won't tun you need to drill center of key with 3/8 drill bit so you can turn and pull. Might be easier to remove 3 Phillips screws from lower cowl first to see easier

Remove camshaft covrs
Remove front cover
Remove or fully retract all three timing chain tensioners
Remove oil pump
Primary and secondary chain guides should remain in place. Rotate crankshaft until sprocket drive key is at about 1 o'clock position.
Set crankshaft and intermediate shaft sprockets into primary drive chain with their timing marks asjacent to each other.
Install crankshaft and intermediate sprockets over their respective shafts. Rotating crankshaft as necessary to engage crankshaft key in sprocket without changing the timing mark relationship.
Install Flywheel Holder Tool (J-39411) to lock crankshaft in position. Install intermediate shaft sprocket retaining bolt and torque to specifications.
Route secondary chain for left cylinder head over inner row of intermediate shaft teeth.
Route secondary drive chain over chain guide, and install exhaust cam sprocket to chain so camshaft drive pin engages the sprocket notch marked "LE" (Left Exhaust).
There dhould be no slack in the lower section of the chain, and the camshaft drive pin must be perpendicular (90 degrees) to the cylinder head surface.
Install the intake camshaft sprocket into the chain so the sprocket notch marked "LI" (Left Intake) engages camshaft drive pin, while drive pin remains perpendicular to the head face. Minor adjustments can be made to camshaft position to get pin to engage by using a wrench on the hex cast into the camshaft.
Install sprocket retainer bolts and torque to specification.
Repet steps as above to install the right secondary chain to the right camshafts. The right camshaft sprockets are marked "RE" and "RI". In addition, the RE sprocket must contain the camshaft position sensor pickup.

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
   
2. Drain the engine oil.
   
3. Remove or disconnect the following:
   Negative battery cable Engine from the vehicle Oil pan Engine front cover Cylinder heads
4. Lock the jackshaft tensioner by installing a pin.

To install:

1. Install or connect the following:
   Timing chain(s) Right rear cassette chain, tensioner and sprocket Jackshaft sprocket and chain on the engine and remove the tensioner pin
   
2. Torque the jackshaft sprocket bolt in 2 stages:
   1. 32-35 ft. lbs. (43-47 Nm).
      
   2. Turn an additional 65 degrees.
      
3. Install or connect the following:
   Cylinder heads Front cover Oil pan Engine to the vehicle Negative battery cable
4. Fill the engine with clean oil.
   
5. Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary.

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
   
2. With the vehicle in neutral, position it on a hoist.
   
3. Remove the intake manifold.
   
4. Remove the fuel supply manifold.
   
5. Remove the accessory drive belt.
   
6. Remove the thermostat housing.
   
7. Remove the roller followers.
   NOTE You must retime the LH and RH camshafts when either camshaft is disturbed. Turn the crankshaft clockwise to position the number one cylinder at top dead center (TDC).
   
   NOTE The special tool must be installed on the damper and should contact the engine block to position the engine at TDC.
   
8. Install the special tool.
   NOTE The right-hand camshaft sprocket bolt is a left-hand threaded bolt.
   NOTE If necessary, use camshaft gear torque adapter to loosen the camshaft sprocket bolt.

To remove the front head light please follow the steps below:

1. Place the Ford Ranger in "Park." Turn the engine off. Turn the headlights off. Remove the key from the ignition. Allow the truck to cool for about 20 minutes.
2. Open the hood of the vehicle. Locate the two retainer pins on the headlight assembly of the light that needs to be replaced. Pry the retainer pins open with your finger. This releases the headlight assembly from the Ranger.
3. Pull the headlight assembly forward. Unplug the electrical connector from the back of the assembly by hand. Rotate the retaining ring counterclockwise and slide it off the plastic bulb base.
4. Pull the burned out bulb straight out of the headlight assembly. Discard the used bulb. Insert a replacement bulb into the headlight assembly and push it straight into the socket until it clicks into place. Slide the retaining ring around the bulb and rotate it clockwise to secure it.
5. Plug the electrical connector into the back of the unit. Slide the headlight assembly back into the Ranger. Push the retaining pins back down to secure the headlight assembly.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
SOHC Engine See Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the timing chain front cover.

During timing chain and sprocket removal, position the crankshaft 90 degrees past Top Dead Center (TDC), to make sure the pistons will not contact the valves upon assembly.

1. Carefully rotate the crankshaft clockwise so the timing mark on the crankshaft sprocket and keyway align with the main bearing cap split line (90 degrees past TDC).
2. Remove bolts, then remove the timing guides and tensioner.
3. Remove the camshaft sprocket bolt, using a 7 / 8 in. (21mm) wrench to hold the camshaft. Then remove the timing chain and camshaft sprocket. Remove the crankshaft sprocket, if necessary.

To install:

1. Inspect the chain for wear and damage. Check the inside diameter of the chain, it should be no more than 16.77 in. (426mm). Inspect the chain guides for wear or cracks and the timing sprockets for teeth or key wear. Replace components as necessary.
2. Verify that the crankshaft is positioned 90 degrees clockwise past TDC from the keyway (keyway at 3 o'clock).
3. Bring the camshaft up to No. 1 TDC by loosely installing the sprocket and rotating the sprocket until the timing pin can be inserted. The camshaft contains wrench flats to assist in turning the shaft. The dowel pin should be at 12 o'clock when the camshaft is at TDC and a timing pin ( 3 / 16 in. drill bit) should then install at about the 8 o'clock position.
4. If removed, install the crankshaft sprocket, then rotate the crankshaft counterclockwise 90 degrees up to No. 1 TDC (keyway at 12 o'clock).
5. Position the chain under the crankshaft sprocket and over the camshaft sprocket. If necessary remove the camshaft sprocket, then slide the camshaft sprocket into position with the chain already engaged. The timing chain should be positioned so that one silver link plate aligns with the reference mark on the camshaft sprocket and the other aligns with the downward tooth (at the 6 o'clock position) on the crankshaft sprocket. The letters FRT on the camshaft sprocket must face forward, away from the cylinder head and excess chain slack should be located on the tensioner side of the block.
6. Temporarily install the timing pin to verify proper alignment of the camshaft and sprocket, then install and tighten the sprocket bolt to 75 ft. lbs. (102 Nm). Again, use a wrench on the camshaft flats to hold the shaft in position while tightening the bolt. Do not allow the camshaft retaining bolt to torque against the timing pin or cylinder head damage will result.
7. Install the chain guides with the words FRONT facing out. Install the fixed guide first and verify the chain is snug against the guide, then install the pivot guide. Tighten the bolts to 19 ft. lbs. (26 Nm) and verify that the pivot guide moves freely.
8. Retract the tensioner plunger and pin the ratchet lever using a 1 / 8 in. No. 31 drill bit inserted in the alignment hole at the bottom front of the component. Install the tensioner and tighten the bolts to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm), then remove the drill bit.
9. Make one final check to verify all components are properly timed, then remove all timing pins.
10. Install the timing chain front cover.
11. Connect the negative battery cable, start the engine and check for leaks.

Camshaft Position Sensors are located on the cylinder head according to the following: Camshaft, Bearings & Lifters Removal & Installation To Remove:

1. Remove the engine from the vehicle.
2. Remove the front suspension member, transaxle and transfer case (if equipped) from the engine.
3. Mount the engine in a suitable engine stand.
4. Remove the timing chains and rear timing chain case.
5. Remove the camshaft position sensors from the cylinder heads.
6. Remove the intake valve timing control solenoid valves. NOTE: Mark the camshafts, camshaft brackets, and bolts so they are placed in the original locations during installation.
   
7. Loosen the camshaft bracket bolts in several steps using the order shown.
8. Remove the intake and exhaust camshaft brackets and the camshafts. Camshaft bracket bolt removal sequence
   
   
9. Remove the valve lifters and the secondary timing chain tensioner with stopper pin attached if necessary.

NOTE: Stopper pin was installed when the secondary timing chain was removed.
To Install:
NOTE: Clean sealant from front camshaft bracket, bolts and bolt holes.

1. Turn the crankshaft until No.1 piston is at TDC on the compression stroke. The crankshaft key should line up with the right bank center line as shown. Crankshaft keyway position
   
   
2. If removed, install the secondary timing chain tensioners and valve lifters in their original positions. NOTE: The intake camshaft has a drill mark on the edge of the sprocket mounting flange.
   
3. Position the camshafts on the cylinder heads with the dowel pins as shown. Camshaft dowel pin positions
   
   
4. Apply silicone sealant to the front (No. 1) camshaft bracket as shown. Apply silicone sealant to the front (No. 1) camshaft bracket

5. Install and tighten the camshaft brackets using the following steps in the sequence shown;
   • Step 1 (bolts 7 - 10) : 1 ft-lb (2 Nm)
   • Step 2 (bolts 1 - 6) : 1 ft-lb (2 Nm)
   • Step 3 (bolts 1 - 10): 4 ft-lbs (5.9 Nm)
   • Step 4 (bolts 1 - 6) : 8 ft-lbs (10.4 Nm)
   • Step 4 (bolts 7 - 10) : 7 ft-lbs (9.3 Nm)
6. Wipe off excess sealant from bracket No. 1.
7. Measure the difference between the front surfaces of camshaft bracket No. 1 and the cylinder head. The specification is -0.0055 to 0.0055 in (-0.14 to 0.14 mm). Replace the camshaft and camshaft bracket if out of specification. Measure the difference between the front surfaces of camshaft bracket No. 1 and the cylinder head
   
   
8. Install the IVT control solenoid valves with new gaskets.
9. If removed, install the camshaft position sensor.
10. Install the rear timing chain case and timing chains.
11. Install the engine in the vehicle.

u must remove the sterering wheel and then the ignition key cylinder lock pin to pull the switch out

Your question states both 94 and 95 for model year.
94 and 95 ranger had a 2.3L.

1. If not done:
   1. Loosen tensioner adjusting bolt.
   1. Using Camshaft Belt Tension Adjusting Tool T74P-6254-A, pry tensioner clockwise against spring tension as far as possible.
   1. Tighten adjusting bolt to hold tensioner in released position.

1. Align crankshaft so number one piston is at TDC (top dead center) with crankshaft key pointing straight up and circle on crankshaft sprocket (6306) aligned with notch in engine front cover (6019) .

1. Align triangle on camshaft sprocket with triangle on inner timing belt cover.

1. Align diamond on oil pump sprocket with diamond on inner timing belt cover.

Are you talking about the ignition cylinder? If so, there is a hole in the steering column under the ignition cylinder. With the key in the ignition turned to (I think) accessory insert a thin blunt object into the hole. You'll feel something compress a little and the ignition cylinder can be removed.
