Tail lights dont work

I own a 1991 Chevrolet 1/2 Ton Truck. I removed the bent rear bumper & removed an after market trailer wire harnes that was atached to the bumper since I will not be using it. There were 2 wires running to the front of the truck from this harness which I made sure were not hooked up before I removed the harness. The only wires atached from the harness was a ground to the frame.
Now only the license plate light works when I turn on my parking lights. The brake lights do not come on. The signal lights work, but turn off when I step on the brakes or turn on my headlights.

Oh boy, Chevy uses 3 important wires to make up their tail light harness. Brown is used for your parking lights and yellow and green are your signal and brake light wires, yellow one side, green the other. You have some seriously crossed wires. Start with tracing the lic plate lite since that works. Make sure it leads into your main parking lights and the ground wires from these tail lites aren't cut. The lic place lite will work with just power because the body of the lite is grounded with the bumper. Then make sure that there is power to the signal wires. You can do this with a test light and the signal light switched on. You don't need anyone to step on the brakes since it's the same signal, only interepted. Most importantly, Remove the tail lites and check grounds!! Good luck

Have a 1994 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 1500 with wiring problems. The original problem was a brake light out on the drivers side. I changed the tail light plugs. With head lights off I had brake lights with head...

Your truck may have had the factory trailer tow package, but that did not come with a wiring connector in that year. There should be a wire harness under the rear of the truck near the center of the bumper with 7 wires of the following colors/characteristics -

Red/Orange - +12V Battery (Thick Wire) From fuse #8 (40A)
Black/Orange - Tail Markers (Thick Wire)
Light Blue - Trailer Brakes (Thick Wire)
Violet/Black - Backup Lights (Thin Wire)
Dark Green/Red - Left Stop/Turn - (Thin Wire)
Brown/Red - Right Stop/Turn - (Thin Wire)
Black - Ground - (Thick Wire)

Under the dash, the brake controller wiring should be -

Red/Orange - +12V Battery (Thick Wire) From fuse #8 (40A)
Black/Orange - Ground - (Thick Wire)
Light Blue - Trailer Brakes (Thick Wire)
White/Tan - Brake Light sense - (Thin Wire)

Hope this helps.

I have a 1991 chevrolet k1500 truck i have no reverse lights and now no tail lights, i have checked fuses all good, i replaced all the bulbs both sides of truck and replaced bulb holder tray on each tail...

sounds like you may have a wiring problem at the back of the truck right side underneath behind the bumper were the wires travel from the front to the rear of the truck, if you check the wires for damage, broken, green corrosion or rubbed through this is common for these trucks, check all the wiring at the back in these areas.

Both tail lights and the licence plate lights are out. I have checked EVERY fuse twice. Hears through the grapevine that these trucks have a tail light circut board... Really? Where is it then? Anyone have...

I believe they had a tail light circut card on trucks and suv 's at rear of vehicle on frame joist near rear bumper it is where left/right and truck harness come together and if memory serves me it is a brown wire which feeds tail lights and of course a black ground wire, if it is a truck/suv you may also see a large (10ga) white wire as a ground used for a trailer connector.

Can't get the lights on camper to work when I turn on a signal light both tail lights on camper flash thats the only lights that work . I drive a 2004 silverado

if they camper was wired for an older/other make of truck it might be different check to see if the yellow(left side turn/brake) wire maybe connected or crossed with the green(right turn/brake) wire, also see if the plug in wiring under the rear bumper is a stock plug in or if some one tried to go cheap and use"scotch-locks" on the tail light wires and crossed something under there, the parts store sells a plug in tester for your truck's particular plug that will tell you if the truck has the issue or if it's the camper, also check the ground, hope this helps, and good luck

I have a 6 p0le from the truck to a 7 pole on the camper how do i wire it so the backup lights work? its a 91 camper special

usually the trailer plug isnt wired for backup lights,i guess you will have to wire it manually, check the color of your wire to the backup lights of your truck, locate that wire underneath the back bumper and splice a wire to it to hook to your plug to the trailer.make sure the reverse wire from your trailer matches up with the terminal at your truck

Tail light problebs

Bad ground....and possibly a bad flasher module........stop lamp fuse........corroded wiring between the cab and the tail lights........If your truck has trailer light wiring check to see that it isn't causing the problem.........most after market kits plug into the main plug under the rear of the truck and over time can corrode and create bad connections
hope this helps....good luck!
