Why won't the driver side manual slider door open?

2001 Dodge grand caravan sport driver side sliding door won't open at all. This is a manual door, not power. Before this happened, I was having problems with getting the door to latch closed, it would just bounce back open. And before that, the lock stopped working, I couldn't lock or unlock it, it was just stuck in one position. I can't open the door to access the latching mechanism or check the child safety lock. Any suggestions on how to get the door open?

The rod from the handles to the lock mechanism could have come off or become bent to the point that it won't work the latch anymore. The prior problems were probably just symptoms of the problem you have now. Will have to take the door panel off and manually trip the latch.

Can you pull on the release handle and use a screwdriver to change the position of the latch?

Try putting a screwdriver in to act as catch on door frame & try pulling each handle & getting it to let go. Make sure you spray it, as well as behind it & around it with WD-40 or similar to get things loosened up in case their just partially seized. The keep working it with screwdriver until freed up.

SOURCE: 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan side door does not automatically close.

sounds like the door sensor switch is malfunctioning and when almost closed it reacts like it is blocked (such and kid in way) and opens for safety. try flushing trach with hose and try again, if not u need a good repair manual such as chiltons($25 most parts stores ) or see mechanic

Sounds like the locking mechanism is worn out and needs to be replaced any mechanic in you're local area should replace it rather cheaply.

Automatic Sliding Door problems on 2005 Dodge Caravan

We have the same problem, just opposite doors - the passenger slider will close to 80%, but the driver still functions fine. There must be an easier solution than new wiring harness/motor??

Remote slide door will not close or open all the way.

there is a cable of wires that lay in the track under the slider they break from normal use.. the harness it fairly easy to change.. when you open the door lok in the opening you will see the harness there in black plastic

Sliding door lock

If you check the doorlock actuator it is more than likely bad. On my caravan I had to replace actuators on both sliders. Cannot get correct actuators at autoparts stores. Either go to a salvage yard or to the dealer to get them.
