Where did you get the new key/remote? If it was not a guaranteed OEM replacement, the code is probably not correctly set and you will no comeback on the supplier.
If you DID get the new one from an authorized dealer, take it back and demand they fix it properly.

the security in the freelander is the one system that cannot be cracked, the only option is to send the remote to a company in england that will servies your remote ,www.alarmremotes.co.uk/new_page_4.htm. they should be able to help you .

Programming a new Key
Replacing a missing master key is quite expensive from Land Rover, try not to get sucked into the extra cost of "Dealer coding" You can do this yourself in 2 minutes by following the simple process below.
1) Get in and close all doors. Turn ignition on and off quickly and remove the key (all within about 5 seconds).

2) Within 30 seconds of turning the ignition off, while holding down the "unlock" button, press the "lock" button three times. Release the "unlock" button. (You may or may not get the confirmation from the door locks.) Holding the key at your head level provides best results as the key sensor is in the side window pillar.

3) Repeat for each key you want to initialize within 30 seconds after the last one you initialized (if you have more).

4) Right after doing the last key, quickly put the key back in the ignition and turn it on/off again to finalize.

Hi, as far as I know it is not possible to this yourself,

they cost £60 to get done from an independent decoder.
if you get both done ask for discount example £90 for 2.

Some decoders will come to you and do it so shop around for the best deal.

just take it to a battery outlet were they sell you batterys for your car and for everything else dont do it your self you can break it or damge the parts inside the key
