1998S70 Volvo jump started it and put the jump cables on wrong battery post. Cables melted. Put new battery in wont start else you jump start it. What's wrong.

You might want to have then check the alternator. Sometimes an alternator will test ok but once it has been running for a while, the dilinoids (not sure about the spelling), will basically cause a short circuit in the electrical system and the alternator is no longer charging the battery which drains the battery.
