We replaced original gas cap to a locking gas cap on 2005 Saturn Vue, now check engine light has now come on. Could it be from an improper seal with new gas cap?

Disconnect the battery wait 10 minutes, then reconnect it.

Take the car back to your Mechanic and have the mechanic reset your system. Some may advise you to disconnect the battery, and that will reset your computer. This may cause significant problems with your car's computer,radio, alarm. Take the car to the mechanic.

If the light was flashing when it came on, then it means your engine is misfiring.
