SOURCE: 2002 ford f150 four wheel drive front hubs not

Is the system ESOF ( Electronic Shift On the Fly ) or MSOF ( Mechanical Shift On the Fly ) ?

If you have already tested to find the front drive shaft locks into place, and the front axle is the cause, looks to the front vacuum disconnect shift motor.
Item #10 in the parts diagram below :
sscullys_1.gif

Close up of it ( this is a picture from another person's bracket that broke ) :
sscullys_51.jpg

Chances are the vacuum lines to the vacuum disconnect motor are cracked, the vacuum solenoids are not working correctly, or the vacuum to the solenoids is having an issue ( the reservoir ) :
Vacuum diagram for the shift motor
sscullys_52.jpg

The pink line is vacuum for 2WD operation ( unlocks the axle ) the light blue vacuum line is for 4WD operation ( locks the axle ).

You can test right at the vacuum disconnect motor with a vacuum gauge with the motor running. Unplug the shift motor, and check for vacuum right at the motor.

Could be the shift motor has a damaged diaphragm and not holding vacuum or has water in it ( saw that 1 time ).

Start with checking for vacuum. Also check the fuses for the vacuum solenoids, the power is always at the solenoid, ground is switched on and off by the GEM ( Generic Electronics Module ) to operate them

SOURCE: I have a 2003 ford

P0172 - System Too Rich (Bank 1)
Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 1 detected a rich condition (too little oxygen in the exhaust). On V6/V8/V10 engines, Bank 1 is the side of the engine that has cylinder #1.

Note: This DTC is very similar to P0175, and in fact your vehicle may show both codes at the same time.

Symptoms: You will more than likely not notice any drivability problems, although there may be symptoms such as a misfire.

Causes: A code P0172 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters can cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled. There is also an issue with some vehicles where the MAF sensors leak the silicone potting material used to protect the circuitry.
There could be a vacuum leak.
There could be a fuel pressure or delivery problem

Possible solutions include:
Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary
Cleanthe MAF sensor. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling
Inspect fuel lines for cracks, leaks, or pinches
Check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail
Check the fuel injectors, they may be dirty. Use fuel injector cleaner or get them professionally cleaned/replaced.
Check for an exhaust leak before the first oxygen sensor (this is unlikely to cause the problem, but it is possible)

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: where is the fuel pump relay on 1999 ford f150 extended cab four wheeled drive

It's located in the fuse panel under the hood of the vehicle in the engine compartment. Below is a diagram of the fuse layout. I marked the fuel pump relay. I also marked the 20 amp fuse for the fuel pump for you. In case you didn't know and just want to be sure, there is a fuel pump cut off switch as well. Below is a picture of its location and where you see the blue arrow pointing down there is either a white or red button to push down to reset it. Hope I was able to help....

Cant get out of 4 wheel drive

If it is a push button four wheel drive system there should be a soft vaccum line the runs to your front end where your axle shafts are connected. There is a little box there which is what controlls your two wheel and four wheel. It's possible that the line is dry rotted and won't hold enough pressure to switch out of four wheel or also possible that the sensor there has gone bad as well.

Will not shift into four wheel drive

I had this same problem on my 96 Jimmy.Check under the hood for cracked vaccum lines. You may have a vaccum line that is letting vaccum escape and not allowing the 4WD to engage.
